Newcomer / Intro How do you become the first to discover a planet?

Hi,

I have been playing ED for quite some time now but have never come across a planet or star that hasn't been discovered already. Recently I travelled very far and have now found some. I get in close and use my discovery scanner and wait for them to be analysed, when this is complete and a go into System Map it doesn't come up as first discovered by Me.

How do I make this happen, do I have to travel back to a station and sell the data before it is classed as a discovery, or do I need some kinda special equipment? I really want to get my name added to the map lol.

Hi Stylafome - yep you have to sell the data. You'll then get a message telling you if you're a first discoverer.

The further from the bubble you get the fewer systems are already discovered. When only travelling in the bubble your concept of distance is WAY off. Until you have travelled out a few thousand ly then you won't get a feel for it. Only a tiny fraction of the systems available are discovered, it is just that nearly all of these are in the bubble.

I've travelled back to a station and sold my data and now have my name on over 13 planets lol AWESOME!!!

is there away you can go back and look at al the ones that hold your name to them?

You'd have to bookmark them.
Universal Cartographics don't let people look back into their libraries.

Ah lame. I'll prbably never see them again lol. Also on this forum what is the Mostly Harmless under my name actually based on? Also if you have a login for the game do you automatically get a login for this forum or do you have to register seperatly?

Regarding finding your own planets: most explorers use an external tool like EDDiscovery, which at the very least keeps automatically track of where you've been and lets you write down notes (e.g. for interesting systems).

The "mostly harmless" under your forum name is based (IIRC) upon the number of posts you made in the forum, and

the forum login is completely independent from the game.

1) number of posts.
2) The account are separate. You have to register here after registering the game. Would be nice if they were bound, though. We'd get rid of a couple of trolls.

Its kinda annoying cos my commander name from the game is taken on here. I thought it was because I already had a login I didn't even know about. Oh well
