How do you clean the inside of your lenses?

There was another thread on this but I can't find it. Not sure if it covered the inside of lenses.

I can clean the outside ok, I've got a few scratches now, but they are invisible so no biggie. It's the INSIDE of the lenses I find hard to clean.

No matter what I do, how I wipe, they immediately suck back in some dust. Well, I tried one, which I ended up making much worse so I've given up for now.

Any tips? Sick of seeing tiny shaving hairs whenever I look at white.

To confirm: talking about DK2 lenses obviously :p

Well, you could take off the DK2 while you're shaving. I mean, I know we're all addicted to the immersion, and never want to take the thing off. On a long exploration trip it would certainly be very immersive to try to shave while pinging your Advanced Discovery Scanner, but you gotta draw the line somewhere! Just sayin.

:) Sorry - couldn't resist.

I'm interested in the answer too - maybe anti-fog ideas. I've never even tried to pop out the lens "cups" under the theory that I don't want to "break the seal"!

I spread butter on mine, then get my cat to lick it off.

Their little tounges don't scratch the lenses.

If you talk inside of the lens and the screen itself I used a hairdryer to flush all dirt in there for the screen. Only one small piece of dirt are zoomed and drive me crazy. The inside of lens stay clean as I nearly never removed them. the outside I use little piece of textile specific to glasses.

I use one of these - you can buy a lens cleaning kit from Amazon which contains this. Very handy for blowing dust out.

An overclocked turkey baster? :D

Also - I would advise against using those cans of compressed gas - a lot of them have bittering agents that will irritate your eyes. I mentioned before using silica gel packs to help stop fogging up, upon reflection that is a bad idea. Maybe a small cloth bag with some baking soda instead? Thing is, you really don't want anything getting near your eyes.

Interesting I specifically asked was it just compresses no additives, got he answer yes! must check never used it yet, but one microbe does standout when dropping out.

Ok I've come up with a perfect way, just did it. Not a single piece of dust, hair or zargoid poo in my vision anymore :D

I just used a vacuum cleaner. I took off the lenses, and hoovered the inside of them as close as I could without touching the glass. Not that hard to do. Did it for a while as some of the dust was stubborn. Also, I noticed that there was a lot of dust on the SCREENS themselves. I did the same thing, much more careful, kept a safe distance but applied the suction for as long as necessary. Kept the hoover sucking the air nearby as I replaced the lens to prevent dust from settling in again.

I picked a dry day, when the rift hadn't been on for a day so it was cool and dry itself. I was quick and careful but this method sucked up all the dust and it's really nice to have clear vision again :)

Not sure how the dust got INSIDE the lenses in the first place, I guess they just aren't completely airtight. This will probably be a bi-monthly maintenance.
