How do you drop in on a pvp fight?

I was interdicted today by a player, just wanted to kill me, in a Viper without cargo holds so it wasn't about pirating. Was just pondering whether to full on engage when another player drops in, team mate of the 1st one.

So how does that work... how can I see a fight going on and drop in myself?

Strikes me this would be a good thing to be able to do, then reasonably honourable players could drop in and help out those that had been interdicted by the increasing number of psycho murderers or pirates etc. The only way I know how to drop into a defined spot is via a USS.

Those low energy FSD white thingies that appear while supercruising, you can target them and drop on the same instance.

You just select the low frameshift wake in supercruise where a player disappeared from supercruise. Then you go into it yourself and if you're quick enough, the person who dropped out of supercruise at that point will still be there.

It is a little tricky though, you have to go very slowly once you get up close to it or it will shoot past.

Luck of the draw, if he's in the same instance as you were before dropping out of SC he can follow your wake to sublight.
