Horizons How do you find a station that doesnt appear on the system map?

I picked up a mission on the bulletin board, haulage, 330,000 credits to haul cargo to Neumann survey in Wolf 1060, got there and I don't see the station on the system map, the fine for this mission is 302,000 credits, if I cant deliver it I take it I get fined. is there something I'm missing about the station or could this be a bug. Ive tried to buy system data within a station but theres no data available. opened and closed the map several time and still no sign of the station only the station I'm docked at appears.

Purchase a scanner, preferably the advanced scanner.

Is this a ground station? I've never had this happen for space ports, they will appear on the system map even if the rest of the system is unknown.

If you fly near the planet where the station is the ground bases will appear.

Neumann survey is on a planet. He needs to find the planet first, it will be much easier if he buy's an advanced scanner.

Edit - I just checked my system map, the port is on the 6th moon orbiting a gas giant 3,004 ls from the star.

Thanks for the info on this, ive only played a few weeks so didn't even know how to use the scanner, quick youtube tutorial was handy, cant afford those advanced scanners so will ditch the mission and get saving for the scanner.. thanks for the help guys.

Hi and welcome to the rest of your life lol. It's worth remembering even the basic scanner has a range of 500ls. I had exactly the same situation trying to find a remote surface outpost and although I could afford the advanced scanner they weren't available anywhere nearby. I didn't want the trouble of going nearly 100ly to where I knew they were for sale, so I used the basic one and simply orbited the star between 450-500 ls in supercruise and scanned at regular intervals. I repeated the orbit at around 950-1000ls and luckily within a few minutes I discovered the planet and its moons where the outpost was located. Not forgetting the bonus credits earned for discovering them as well as the mission payout.

If I may also suggest; look before you leap! There's a handy button on the bulletin board mission page that opens the galaxy map so you check exactly where the mission is taking you before you accept it (and the consequences...)

do nav beacons count for finding surface stations?

Not right now, currently you have to scan the planets to find the surface stations on it.

However, in future updates, scanning a nav beacon shall indeed grant exploration data for the whole system. I can't recall if this will be available starting in 2.1 or later on though.

Edit: according to the dev update from 18th february, nav beacons will be scannable to obtain location of USS related to active missions, but maybe not for exploration data, my memory has tricked me again.

That only plots the station your in to the system your going, not the final destination. Sometimes the destination just isn't there, it as if they changed their name.

When you open the destination system, you can see the planet button. It shows the surface installations, if there are any.
When I take a mission to a system, I open the system, then if the destination is not shown as a starport or platform, I scan the landable planets. If I find the correct surface installation I can take the mission. If it is not findable, I don't take the mission.

Don't know if this has been stated yet, but you don't need a scanner to do the missions. If you get a mission for a system that you haven't explored yet, just drop down to the Nav Beacon and select it, when the scan completes, you will have all the system data and all the bases in the system for 24 hours, scanning the Nav beacon is equivalent to a level 2 scan, so you won't get mineral data for the landable planets, but you will get the locations to planet bases and all orbitals in the system. If you want the permanent system information, then you will have to come back with a scanner and scan everything.
