How do you guys feel about the CV1 ?

For me personally I'm feeling somewhat underwhelmed. What with the smearing and, in ED specifically, the fact that supersampling above 1 doesn't do anything apart from cause judder. For me on the DK2 I could crank up to SS 2.0 and the image was so much more crisp. With the DK2 and the new 1.3 runtime plus the ED update the resolution is much more limited and it concerns me about how much better ED can be in resolution terms with the CV1.

I was expecting some big jumps when compared to the DK2 but at the moment I'm not feeling it. No one seems that blown away by it. Maybe the DK2 was actually a pretty good representation of what the CV1 would be. It feels like there has been more work carried out on the aesthetics than anything else.

Prove me wrong...I'm happy to be !

Don't worry smearing will be sorted soon (its been with us since day one and keeps cropping up) As to the 'other' threads its all hyped up at the moment (seems especially pronounced today). :)

+1 - I'm extremely happy with the CV1, the hardware, software, and all. It is a significant leap above DK1, and DK2. The only 'reason' I would recommend waiting on CV1 is if you want to also wait for the next gen GPU hardware coming out in 3-6 months and buy them together.. and of course Elite 2.1 should finally be out by then ;-)

In what way would you say it is better than the DK2 ?

Any links to the new GPU tech coming out ?

The one proviso I would make is if you wear glasses. Not having tried the production HMDs myself there maybe some cause for concern. If you are happy with DK2 and 1.3 plus need a CPU/GPU costly upgrade then hold fire.

Right there with you was hoping to hear how clear and defined the image is now compared to DK2. Having serious doubts about my choice to go ahead and purchase one very close to cancelling the order unless some pretty quick fixes come forward. At least with DK2 you could define a lot of what you would see based on how much performance you wanted to give up. This sounds like strap it on your head and that is what you get period although they have obviously fixed a lot of performance issues. Torn again.

Disappointed because of the lack of transparency.

For example, they did not disclose the type of the lens, brightens or approximate FoV values...

There is nothing wrong with the headset, it is just the differing exceptions many had that kind of left a bad taste in the mouth. It is not a bad product per se, it is just not as suited for Elite as the less fresnel segmented lenses of Vive because the environments you commonly find yourself.

What about a pixels and net betweent a pixels? Could You see that in CV1 or not? Ingame text is readable and sharp or you need to zoom it?

I think that when judging the CV1, Elite is probably not the best benchmark. I know it's the game everyone including myself wants to be perfect but the fact is that there are many free apps the show amazing picture quality and performance.
