How do you identify neutron stars in the galaxy map?

Throttle to zero when jumping in…
Just saying'

EDIT: I guess that's how relevant the info is, when you post after reading the first page only…
I will at least confirm one thing, you can cut your throttle anytime from when the countdown starts (although I had a little bug a while back where my throttle was reset to max upon arrival, it was sorted by restarting the game)

I have noticed something that might explain the bug. If you use presets with the throttle, when you revert to normal space it will still be set at the last preset. Even if you do cut throttle in the countdown. Dunno if that was tbe problem but it would explain it.

Okay, I just jumped into a system with a NS as its main body. Came out at 0.23 LS with red lights flashing. With precautions in mid-jump like throttling down to zero it's a close call but doable.

nah. at .23 ls, your heat should be fine. As long as you don't cross the gravity well boundary line, you're fine.

I love how the gravity well line is (it feels) like 2 dimensional...........
If your jump point is inside it but behind, you kind of duck down and underneath and come back into line.
Yet it doesn't drop you out giving you a feeling the gravity well is flat...

I have to confess I gave up my Python endeavour and have returned Glad Hart to human space. I spent some time in the galaxy map looking for some points of interest and decided that, with the ranges involved, I should pre-emptively stave off space madness and return.

1,600lys later and I landed in Alioth to buy an Asp. Hwitspearwa (White Sparrow) is now fitted and ready for duty with a range just shy of 34ly. Trifid Nebula, here I come!

I'm glad that this thread has helped others, too. Thank you for the advice. I was curious to see how close you could get to a neutron star as well and crept towards it carefully. The temperature went from being manageable to out of control in seconds - but then I looked and saw that its surface temperature was 9.4 million K :D

I've hit a few neutrons mostly by forgetting to throttle back during the jump. Iirc you are OK to about 0.20 L's, anything less than that start worrying.

That's when it went bonkers. I had a 25ish percent rise in heat in mere seconds. I managed to turn her around and started to pour my last reserves of ice cold Space Beer on the dashboard. It helped a bit :D

guys!!!!
You do NOT need a combat setup for exploration !!! Even to go to Sag A*. The most you need is a shield to help you when you get back, even then you shut shields down as soon as you are a few 100 LY outside the bubble(it helps heat management)
It is practically impossible for anyone to hunt you down even 1 jump from Sag A*, let alone the rest of the galaxy.

Go for jump range, more pilots have died from mistakes than combat

Inattention is a bigger risk than anything else, although I did recently get the pleasure of this view just outside my port window having just jumped in. My heat was instantly at 81% (my cold temp is about 24%) and the fuel scoop was going at half speed...

If you can't make out the distance it was 1.71ls

Having raced away with only superficial burns, put my underwear in the recycling unit, showered and put up a new air freshener the view looked quite pretty...

The semi major axis for the secondary M star was 0.01 AU...

Having taken my time on this trip (about 30kly so far) this was my only damage and thankfully everything hit repairable modules.
