I tried just shooting the other side, but I'm not getting any combat bonds when I do that, and I can't find the option to join a faction with the new menu setup.
You need to pick a faction side - Right hand UI panel. Have a poke around for something that says 'Choose faction' when in the CZ...its moved since the update and I am not at my PS4 right now.
All change with 3.3 now
You get a coms message on Top left now with a choice from the 2 at around <7Km
CZ have 3 states
Active = ships flying about < 9km
deactivated = No ships and wreckage only at 0.0 distances
Broken game code = planets gravity moving the ships so fast than you can not catch up to them, relog can fix this...

Oh okay. I didn't realize that it's a message now. Thank you.
And don't shoot other players in the back. I hate having to turn around to delete Eagles in one trigger pull and have them call me scum when they were the idiot attacking me.
