How do you keep from getting bored with exploration?

- listening to astronomy podcast while out. i learned of ton of stuff, and you start thinking about stars, planets and everything else you encounter.

- looking for extreme canditates for universalcartographics

- having targets. for exampel: visiting 7 real galaxy hypergiants on the way to jaques. trying to reach -3000 ly below sag a. nebulas

- visiting different star-classes. for exampel: all kind of s-class stars in the game

- changing ships. i have explored in an adder, aspe, t6, cobra, dbe, dbs, python, clipper, courier, conda.

I think listening to astronomy podcasts is a great idea - any suggestion for good ones?
I mostly fly with Radio Sidewinder playing at the moment.

I've hit Elite in combat, its what I do best.

But with exploration, I've gone only about 2500 LY out from my "home station", and just found it to be utterly boring.

I'm not slamming anyone for anything, but how do you long distance explorers keep from getting bored during those 10000 LY+ exploration missions.

I've jumped, honked, explored the things that look like they need exploring, but I just find myself just wanting to turn around and get back to the HiRez in my local neighborhood.

I've gone as far as selling my Vulutre, upgrading to the Asp Explorer to get that much better jump range, but after a night of exploring, its back to the pew-pews...

Help?

Most others have given good insight into the situation - either you enjoy exploration, or you don't. However, if you really want to level up the exploration... have you tried Buckyballing it? Make the A* run in one go, then explore your way back until you get bored and race back.

Nice to see you here, I hope you're back for good! :)

I set my tablet up on the coffee table, sync it to the TVs soundbar (don't need elites sound) and smash out jump after jump with my feet up watching films.

I enjoy exploration but after I while I can’t stand the emptiness. I need to see other ships, even NPCs suffice. I was surprised to learn about how I reacted on my first long distant trip.

I make myself targets to go to.

also I purchased Game Music pack which is excellent- works with Voice Attack.

seeing great views make it all worth while. Q4 2018 I’m looking forward to. Even Q1 release will be great- more varied planets.

If you want to crank out Explorer check out Road to Riches https://www.alpha-orbital.com/pathfinder .

It is designed for you to go from zero to hero if you knock them all out. It wont get you the 5kly to unlock the engineer though. If you have a decent jump range ship it is only 4 or 5 jumps from the bubble (well in my 50ly jumping ASP X it is).

I still do deep space exploration and went on a 26kly journey with a scientist who paid me really good money on top of explorations data to go see a nebula. (Got my first two personal Earth Like World discoveries on that trip)

I have my work laptop next to me and if Im jumping I throw on NetFlix and put on Voyager. I'm with that brave crew in spirit. To the Delta Quadrant!
