Just curious what everyone’s tactics are. When I get home off work my brain is only about 25% functional and I end up just flying around randomly. Even if I have a broad goal of engineering up a ship, keeping track of all the mats I need to source for multiple different modules and experimental… and then every session I start thinking “how did I get here? What was I doing?” It’s really challenging to weave it all into an overarching plan/story

Long term lists such as systems and area's to visit I use notepad and day to day odds and ends the old fashioned pen and paper.
Mats I collect on the go, scan a couple of ships and wakes as I leave stations check out a couple of USS's while en route, doing this on a regular basis and they soon add up.

Long term objectives; what you actually want to achieve.
Mid term targets; milestones to be completed as stepping stones to one or more objectives.
Short term goals; Items to be completed to achieve targets.
Not everything has to be subordinated to this. Getting sidetracked and wandering frequently leads to the best moments.

My long-term goals are usually simple enough and small enough in number for me to just remember them in my head between sessions. Past examples include working on my Federation or Imperial rank in order to unlock their ships.
Sometimes I will be mid-way through a mission between sessions, but this is rare because I prefer to have all my in-game business sorted before logging off for the night. This means having nothing on my Transactions page. I might keep AX bonds on there as a reminder.
Usually what happens is that I have a rough idea of what I want to be doing in the session as I boot up the game. Maybe I'll switch to doing something else partway through, like when I get bored with space trucking and switch up to kersploding pirates, or vice versa when combat feels a bit too intense so I start doing some hauling instead.
