How do you know if you can walk on a planet or not?

This is quite confusing. If you look at the system map and check out a planet with a blue ring and then you go there, sometimes you are unable to land on it. this is a Blue ring that looks like it is meant to mean have an atmosphere.

So why cant I land on it? Surely this has got to work?

An atmosphere alone isn't enough (and as far as I can tell those mostly exist for immersion and nice screenshots.

Landables have the horizons blue crescent icon on, 'em.

Assuming you're looking at the right planets (not all "atmospheres" are supported), then it's because of temperature ranges. Sometimes it's hothothot, sometimes it's brrrrrrrr. The way you know is the range between hothothot and brrrrrrr on the system map. I don't know the upper and lower limits but someone else might help with that. It can change depending on day/night.

But my guess is it's the first thing (you're looking at a planet that hasn't got a tenuous atmosphere).

Another thing that confuses me is where do you find the footfall person log? that you have actually foot falled it first?

I’ve not found a lower limit, but upper limit is 700K I believe.

ok... found what i am looking for but now it says a permit is required to land here... what a joke...
Spent an hour an a half looking for an impact site now cant land on the dam planet because of a permit lock... that noone told be about before i got to the planet... Frontier FDevs how not to make this game enjoyable....

for the record this is Trianguli Sector MX-U B2-6 Prehaps I have found Raxlaa!!!!

The highest amount of atmospheric pressure you can land in is 0.1 Atmospheres

The highest gravity you can walk in is 2.7g
The highest temperature that suits can withstand is 800K

Permit locked planets have been in the game since launch.
Well instead of you getting to the planet scanning the dam thing finding the item you have been looking for, prehaps it says, permit locked and make it obvious that you cant land on it so you dont waste time trying to figure out why you cant land on it.

Does that make sense at all?

Sure, but it depends why you're there?

If a mission sent you to a planet that is permit locked, without telling you that it required a permit. Then that's a bug and should be reported on the issue tracker.

If you are just going there to look for something, then when you scan the system via the FSS or the Nav Beacon you can look in the System Map and it will tell you if any planets require a permit.
