how do you know someone has a bounty on them after using the kill warrant scanner?

I scan people but it doesn't indicate anywhere whether they are wanted or not. I scanned a python and it still said it was clean but I got 32k after killing it....

Left panel, contacts tab, select your target and you will see bounties in the lower right corner.

So you scanned and then KWS a Python, the initial scan said "Clean" yet you attacked it anyways? I am interested to know did you get a bounty/wanted status for attacking a Clean ship in the faction system you were in or because there was a wanted status from some other faction it was considered a fair target.

I was under the impression Clean targets meant the local factions would consider you the aggressor and start attacking you or apply a wanted status. So how many LY was it to the nearest faction that issued the bounty on that kill? 50 or 100? lol

If he was in a non aligned anarchy system, everyone is clean on the initial scan.

was in anarchy space

KWS strikes me as useless....
I scan the target, if they come up wanted I blow the crap out if them.

Can't be more wrong.

KWS is of limited use in secure space. Try it in an anarchy system. Not only is it required there, you get huge bounties.

The KWS is bounty hunting. Anything else is practice.

Incorrect.

I wiped my save to test the 1.01 fixes last night, and ONLY bounty hunted in Federal Space. Using KWS, I racked up over 40k in Empire/Alliance Bounties in addition to the thousands in local ones. Still got all positive rep with Federation (only up-trending arrow, no change above neutral yet).

So the KWS does have value in any system. Turning in those bounties may affect my rep with the Feds in ways I don't want, but I don't have to turn them in if I don't want to. KWS is only required in lawless space because there are no local authorities to have them show WANTED there.

Proof of how good the KWS is..
30 mins of blasting away bad guys in a popular anarchy system..
160k of Federation bounties
40k Alliance bounties
60k Imperial Bounties

Individual examples I've seen..
2 Viper's in a row with about 22k total bounties - both easy kills.
60k total for killing a Python.
Even Eagle's are sometimes worth 10k or more.

That's pretty good going imo.
And I'm just 1 jump from Imperial and Federation space.

But yeah, using in a non-anarchy system, make sure they are Wanted BEFORE scanning them with the KWS or you will get a bounty and become Wanted yourself when you attack them.

With regards to rep, it looks to me like you gain rep when you make the kills, rather than when you turn in bounties.
