How do YOU land on planets?

Landing is the wrong word.

We should instead be using terms like Merging or Uniting. Perhaps even catalyzing with depending on the angle of descent and composition of the planet.

I have this thing in games... If you give me a ledge, I WILL jump off of it. It was particularly bad in Star Wars: The Old Republic. It seemed I couldn't go a single play session without a falling death. Once we can do EVA, I'll do it after I come out of glide. Repeatedly.

Have you played Kerbal Space Program?

Have you played Kerbal Space Program?

Yeah, but I have to run it from Linux for 64bit stability with my plethora of mods. Unlike my own avatar in games, I care deeply about my Kerbals. They are dependent on me to be a wise, caring, and careful mission commander. If it was me in the command pod instead of Jeb, it would be all rocket powered helicopters and crater-inducing landings.

Ugh, don't leave the machine to answer the door.

Last night I landed IN a planet. I found myself somewhere in the core and unable to get out. Guess what? It cost a load of credits. So in answer to the OP. I don't, I land in it........

If this happens, log out.

Restart the game using the Non-horizons Elite Dangerous version. This will recognise that it does not have access to Horizons and will start the game with your ship in orbit around the planet.

Log out (saves your current position - in orbit) :)

Re-start horizons.... and land more carefully!

My ahem most embarrassing landing on a 3G planet was in my Fed Corvette. Needless to say planet 1 my Corvette 0. 20 something mill buy back screen! What makes it even funnier was my wing mate watched me do it. Just came in too hot!

Now I learned to level off really early and just slowly decend to the surface in a controlled manner. I do the same at stations on hi G planets and works a treat. No more expensive insurance screens.

Well there's the answer... a 3G planet. Your comms and nav system was still trying to get a signal.
Never even try to land on a planet without at least 4G.
