How do you officially adopt and gain ownership of an abandoned play minor faction (PMF)?

Good question, I was tempted to ask too. Is there a way FD would give an insight of abandoned factions due to people leaving the game and no one taking over? I'd be interested in taking over one.

Also would like to know this please. Have been controlling one for ages in influence terms as the owners abandoned it but how might we as another player group adopt it/subsume it into what we do?

Players don't "own" minor factions, they simply petition for their creation and have a bit of a say in the faction's backstory, superpower affiliation and government type. The moment a PMF gets officially added, the player group and the minor faction become completely separate entities - one a collection of like-minded players and the other a completely unaffiliated minor faction that simply shares a name. Adopt it just like you would any other faction, regardless of what any other player might wish.

How does that work? Do the 'owners' actually have any in-game effects beyond flying missions/selling data/trading/bounties/etc to change system Influence? I thought 'ownership' was just for roleplay purposes as the BGS regulates expansion/retreats and the like depending on player actions in the system.

-edit-
Ramirez just confirmed what I suspected, thanks!

Players do 'own' minor factions. For instance, say I get a faction created and I notice an error in the description then I'm teh one who Fdev listen to re the change. You could not for example request Fdev t change the description of someoneelse's PMF because you do not 'own' it.

Well, you've answered your own question then. ;) You need to contact support.

A PMF that hasn't seen concerted and focussed action in its support for a certain amount of time should be removed, IMO.

It will be an interesting discussion to determine the criteria, but I don't see a coherent argument against it.

I concur. People drop games, but elite is also a game that people come back to one day. If stale groups were removed would it affect the expansion prospects of other active player supported factions?

Edit typos stupid phone lol

Descriptions? Where do you see PMF's descriptions? In game somewhere? I have one and submitted a description but have never seen it written anywhere in game :(

When you select them on the galmap. Many lore systems (sol, lave etc) have descriptions, and so do many starting systems of player factions.

I think I always just looked in the mission board when having my faction selected, gonna have to check the galmap when I get home, thanks! :D

As far as I know, and I don't think this has changed since, Fdev aren't allowing any changes to Player Named Factions after they've been added to the game.

Once a Player Named Faction has been added it's on its own, the same as any other Faction in the game.

You could adopt any player faction...just start running missions for that faction.

'Ownership' will not be given over....unless you contact the old player group and have them work with FDev to put you in charge of the faction. Basically, in our faction there are 3 people that have some say over who is able to work with FDev on faction requests. This is part of setting up the group. If person 1 decides to quit the game, then through E: D contacts, we can remove that person from the contact list...and add a new person if we desire.
