How do you officially adopt and gain ownership of an abandoned play minor faction (PMF)?

It's my understanding that "owners" of player-made factions do have some additional rights, in terms of being the ones to make suggestions for CGs and such.

But FD have announced that they will no longer be editing faction names, descriptions, home systems, allegiances or government types. So while you might get to "take over" a faction, you won't get to fundamentally change its nature (eg. by taking an Imperial system and making them Communist).

As the game progresses, the issue of "abandoned player factions" will become more and more prominent. Especially if they keep adding factions at the same rate as they have been, and persist in the "protected status" of PMFs already in the game; even with 20,000 inhabited systems in the Bubble, they'll eventually run out of room to put everybody.

As far as I know, and I don't think this has changed since, Fdev aren't allowing any changes to Player Named Factions after they've been added to the game.

Once a Player Named Faction has been added it's on its own, the same as any other Faction in the game.

That is my understanding as well. Once it is in they will not change it.

In 2.0 and before I remember that a few factions did apply for and receive changes. But those changes to their faction resulted in some unexpected and quite significant problems in the local BGS which prompted FD to change their policy and reject any changes being made once the faction was in the game.

Well, there are nearly a thousand PMFs.

Frankly I think we could drop about 500 from the game without anyone noticing much.

You'd get an outcry from a couple of folks who felt the pain. But nothing the toecutters haven't been paid to listen to before.

If you're adding a mechanism to kill off PMF factions that only exist in their home system - then I can think of one group I'd be happy to chain to a stove and throw overboard.

833 PMFs according to EDDB.

On that list, its 551 that control only one system or less.

But I am against kicking them off just because of that.

A PMF is somebody's (or some group's) mark on the galaxy to a degree, I wouldn't ask to remove someone else's effort or what's left of it like I would hope nobody would ask to remove mine.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Contacting support about PMFs and their ownership/status is probably the best course in such a case. It has never come up before that I've heard of.

If the effort consisted only of writing an email to FDev requesting insertion, but has never been actively supported BGS-wise, I think removal is warranted.

I'd say the mark on the galaxy should require some work in-game.

So if the effort to get your name on a star only consisted of flying there first and returning, should we petition to remove that name because we want ours there instead?

Step 1 - Scream 'Minor Faction [X] is now mine!'
Step 2 - Start acting like its yours in game
Step 3 - Complain on forum whenever other players do things in 'your' system

Done.
