PvP How do you pvp well?

I guess the title says all. I'm a few weeks in, and just got my FDS that I'm working on, but I still find myself unable to really defend myself from the few people that seem to enjoy picking on me. Hoping to be able to turn the tables on them one day, but I don't really have many people that are willing to teach me, so I figured I'd ask here and see if I could get some help with it.

Check out inara for a wing of commanders willing to take you in for training and advice.

As for the FDS, with the best engineering you may survive long enough to get away in one piece, but killing gankers will be difficult although not impossible.

Rank up a bit more and get the FAS; that splendid ship combined with top levels of engineering & practice is going to give you a lot of combat flexibility without breaking the bank or risking a steep rebuy.

Reactive Surface Composite armor. Mod for thermal resistance.
Hull reinforcement packages. Apply heavy duty modification, with deep plating secondary effect.
One medium sized module reinforcement package.
Bi weave shield generator. Mod for thermal resistance.
Grade A thrusters. Dirty drive mod.

Equip guns of your choice.

Congratualtions, you now have a federal medium that is ready for combat.

Fight everyone until you become gud. Talk to your opponents afterwards, compare tactics and builds.

Quick question.
What does literally any of these even mean?

Also, re: everybody else, looks like my best option is saving up for the FAS so soon as I have rank enough to get it, it's time to get that and put the hurt on everybody.

You still need the skills. If you don't know what cknarf is talking about you also need to learn the engineering system.

Basic modifications you should make for PvP...
Swap the stock lightweight armour for reactive and then engineer it to G5 thermal +experimental
HRPs are optional interal modules that add to your armour - engineer them to G5
MRPs are optional internal modules that protect your internal modules
Swap your shield for a bi-weave version (they recharge faster) - and engineer it to G5 thermal
Make sure to fit A-grade thrusters... and engineer them

Basically, engineer everything... are you aware of / familiar with engineering in ED?

Ships don't really mean anything in Elite. Engineering and skill carry the day in PvP. Starting with a meta base ship will give best results, but there are people who go dunk on vettes, cutters and condas with stuff like Eagles, because they built it well, and fly it better. Build and skill are what will get you wins, and neither come easily. If you want to be good at PvP in Elite, you need to be prepared to invest a bit of time and effort. Don't let that discourage you, if you enjoy the game, it's incredibly rewarding to git gud at PvP, and well worth the effort. Just be aware it's gonna take an investment from you.
