How do you restart & HOTAS4

I started playing with the PS4 controller to check things out. Then I decided to give it a try with the HOTAS4. "Thrustmaster HOTAS4" shows up in the controller config menu but when I select it nothing works in flight. How are you supposed to set it up? The PS3 worked like magic when using alternate controllers like joysticks and wheels.

At one point I decided I wanted a fresh start and deleted my save game. I also removed and reinstalled the game. When I went back in I was still in the old save game spot I was at when I was checking things with the Dualshock controller.

Make sure the HOTAS is plugged in first and start the game using the HOTAS not the dualshock.

There is an option on the main menu to clear save.
