How do you see elite

Following a discussion in an other thread, I was wondering how you commanders are seeing Elite: Dangerous, what are you expecting from it.

I'll cite myself from this other thread:

The strength of ELITE is what will be it's greatest weakness. Will be? No is!

The great and mighty POWER OF CHOICE aka POTENTIAL!

I'll explain myself. We are here because we all have that space sim which is hour dream game. The game that we want all to play for hours. Hours? Nah years! Ages! We have this dream space sim hardly in our hearts and one word is echoing.

ELITE! Elite IS this dream game! For all of us! It could be! Elite, as currently it is, is the base game that has the capacity to fulfil our needs. To all of us. It can be the fixed space sim "I'm nobody" that one dreams about. It can also be the feast of interaction, crafting and explosions on the screen that one other dreams about.

Why? We have a BASE GAME with strong gameplay mechanics that we ALL enjoy! And those graphics!!!!!!!! The sound!!!!!! But the fact is that we all also want to see Elite (because we are all in a way selfish) going in the direction of our dream game. I also do! The fact is that the direction can be interpreted differently by us all.

It seems a bit like the common requirements mistakes in the programming world. The requirements are obscure, ambiguous and even contradictory. Only David Braven knows what he wants to see. And he explains those things kinda badly. Is the game currently what he wanted? I still don't think so but does the game even approaches his vision? Who can say?

I expected an EVEisch game (less complicated I concede) or a X game with improved graphics! Ok it might be a bit different I'm not against that but I was expecting for something alike.

Some are expecting the old Elite with better graphics and only that. They want not to see more interaction or owned starbase. They want their ELITE. And it's also legitimate with the current state of the game.

To conclude, we all want our dream game. Elite can reach this dream. And we are all expecting this.

The solution? A choice! A direction! Frontier should say for once NO it will not be like EVE (put the game you want) or YES it will be like it we want to do more than the previous Elites and with a lot more of interactions! Each patch we are having something between the 2 worlds which leads to deceptions in the both sides (except some particular cases). The thing I want is finally to be able to say: " Ok this game is MY game and I will enjoy it forever" or "Ok I don't expect anything more, I'll get over it". We need a choice.

For my 2 cents, I'll say that according to the DDF/A, hey, I saw X game with less automatisms! :p

What do you think?

My dream game is one where I can be all powerful and control my own fate, lord my power over the minions of the universe and troll the hell out of them with silly little nuances they attribute to nature. If they are going exploring, I will let them get 30K out before boinking them in the FSD. Then I'll sit back and giggle my ass off as they whine about it incessantly. At the same time though, I want to be a benevolent presence in the game, to feel loved for how great I am to the starving children of the miners who never find Palladium or Painite. I'll leave a few tidbits of that floating around with weak source signals. Mostly though I want to be unencumbered by the hustlers and their schemes, to rise above it all and be omnipresent. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Eve is built as a command & control game with good reason. They wanted to build an 'Elite' type game but they wanted to go in a different direction.

You cannot use it as a design document for a game that is built entirely around mechanics Eve deliberately avoided (cockpit based action).

Frontier have every right to re-imagine their game and take inspiration from wherever they feel appropriate for the technology and game style they have implemented.

I don't believe it should hang too tightly to the previous games either, but I certainly don't think it should be built to emulate any other series that you can already go out and play.

As the game stands now, I don't think even DB knows what the game will become in 6 months, 6 years or ????

Their are A LOT of possibilities that will be shaped by the customers and what DB's visions can be realized through coding.

I like the myriad of choices that the game has. While I have my personal vision of what the game is I am sure that will change as the game progresses.

I am not sure why FD should try and make a statement about what the game is while they are still in the early life of the game.

So for now I will see the game as it stands: On my 24" monitor. In the future I hope I can see it "in" the Oculus Rift CV1.

Sorry, could not resist that,,,,,, :p

The fact that Elite was being remade in the 21st century was a dream come true. I was hoping for an enjoyable combat model, eventually some sort of landing on planets and finally climbing out of my ship and having something to do. Beyond that I have taken an approach of trying to enjoy what was put in front of me, expect the unexpected and accept that a lot of the content for me would be unreachable due to real life requirements.

To me, Elite is about YOU. Not your fleet or your empire. You and the (usually small) difference you make in the universe. Note I don't say no difference. You're not powerless, but this isn't Mass Effect (or just about every other SF game out there) where the fate of the universe depends on you.

The universe is. You are in it. It could be that you end up just living your live trading your way to a comfortable ship and protecting yourself on a daily basis. Or that you go off to explore and see what no one else has seen. Or maybe you can find yourself in the right place at the right time to tip the balance of something, be it a single fight or the allegiance of a planet. But that's not a guarantee - you're not entitled to it, but it might happen.

The epicness of the game is the game itself, not your role in it, though you may find yourself having epic moments. I'm not trying to say "you're nothing" or "the game's not about you" the way it's been used as a hardcore mantra in other threads. Only to provide perspective. To me, a single PvP encounter I had at a combat zone gave me more thrill as I escaped, then turned and counterattacked and drove him off, than most epic games where I save the universe.

There are plenty of stories here from people who had an intense moment they will no doubt fondly remember years from now. Me, I tend to fictionalize my exploits right here on the forums (Mossfoot's Continuing Tales of Woe) because it helps add a bit of extra depth to what I've encountered. Right now you see the Fuel Rats finding adventure in the most mundane of tasks - helping stranded pilots.

It is that ability to travel in that universe, never knowing what I might end up in next, or where I might find my next adventure (or it find me) in an unscripted way that keeps me interested.

Basically that's what I see Elite as.

To conclude, we all want our dream game. Elite can reach this dream. And we are all expecting this.
you shouldn't expect this, since its impossible to reach. There are many diffrent Ideas of what that Dream Game is, it can't work out for everybody ^^

I just hope for the best, so far its working out for me.

I see Elite pretty much as it is now. More stuff to do as they add more content. Perhaps some new things added out of left field like Powerplay was. But untimlately about you, the commander. Not minions (excluding ship crew, but i'm not expecting anything too awesome there).

In fact, i'm enjoying the game a lot by doing two things that some people can't seem to:

1) Manage my expectations. Look forward to new stuff, but don't start building things up to be beyond what they are, especially before details are revealed.

2) Accepting the game for what it is, which is a kind of sequel to Elite and Frontier with multiplayer tacked on.

I don't rail against powerplay. I don't rail against open/solo sharing a univerise. I don't rail against missing things from the DDF. I enjoy what i have. If, at some point, i get bored with what the game provides, ill go take a break from the game - lots of other games i'm neglecting due to ED.

I see a brilliant remake of Elite with the option to share the galaxy with friends and foes. But I see a big construction site as well with lots of unfinished structures.

I don't want it to be EVE - I could play EVE then. I don't want it to be WoW - I could play that as well. I don't want it to become Star Citizen - I already paid for that.

No I want Elite to stay what it is. A reincarnation of one of the best computer-games ever.

With my eyes, Helgarth!

The complete opposite of a sandbox. Like an open world game where you cant really do anything but grind npcs or grind trades.
