Ships How do you shield a cargo clipper?

I keep vacillating between the Imp Clipper and the T7. I want to go with the Clipper, but a class 4 shield can't cover a loaded hull, and a class 6 shield removes too much cargo space. Has anybody found a good solution for this?

Don't run shields?

The Clipper has such a high base armour rating, it doesn't need shields unless you're trading in a populated area. It has a higher base armour rating than the Python.

I didn't realise that Class 4 can't cover the hull when fully loaded, I didn't even know that was a thing. When you fully load up do your shields stop working?

Alright... I'm just afraid of something taking it out since I got it as part of the Achenar CG and don't know if I can replace it on destruction (and what with interdictions being out of control right now). As for whether a smaller shield will work, the E:D wiki says, and I quote: "Over a certain amount above a shield's optimum mass is a maximum amount it can protect, at which point the field isn't able to be created."

the maximum shield mass is not relevant for "loaded", it just depends on the (unloaded, unequiped) hullmass.

a clipper runs fine with an class 4A, classs.

i have 2 scb additionally, and an class 4 scb - and use it for blockaderunning in open.

light bountyhunting and assassination mission is possible with such a "weak" shielded clipper, too.

the shield hull coverage does not take to account the equipment as far as i know, it only takes the base hull to account, so running A4 is just fine, not big shields but does cover for the bumps into stations just fine.
