How do you show off your DK2?

Ok so I got my DK2,
You get people round and naturally you want to show off the Rift,

You do the obligatory roller coaster, the scary demos on the Occulus share site,
you put them face to face with Alien in Isolation...

Then you come to show off Elite,

Due to nature of Elite, Loss of a ship if unprepared is quite harse.
so yeah I'm really going to let loose an absolute noob control of my Fully Kitted Ship,
I have previously when I knew someone was coming round, went and bought a sidewinder - least its cheap, kinda forgot about wanted status , fines.. and Reputations oops :/

So this Weekend, should have quite a few of the lads over for some beers (Wifes away for w/e).
So looks like the best I can do is let the lads play around in the training missions,
which is a shame as I think they are a very dry view of the world of elite, and very bit part. here learn to take off, mission over, learn to land mission over, shoot the target mission over. all very stop start.

Its a shame as Elite is one of the most easy to get used to VR experience (in terms motion sickness), it also really shows VR is not simply a monitor strapped to the face, its not just another 3d failure waiting to happen. It does have to be tried to appreciate what it is.
I'm guessing they will leave thinking how good being hunted by the alien is in the Rift and now how good flying a spaceship feels.. cos I know which I prefer in the long run.

I have a binge every now and then seeking out decent demos but fail.

Not sure I’d let someone fly my ship. Sounds like you had the right idea with switching to a sidewider.
Training missions are your best bet. You could make a game of it to see who can take off/land the fast. But it is a shame they won’t get to experience a big ship like a T6.

Dredhalls is worth demoing, that should be fun after a few beers

Sightline the chair is fantastic. As is Zero Point (it's not a game, a 360 video documentary which is quite trippy). Windlands is a great experience too. Senza Peso is superb.

As for Elite, don't worry about the tutorials being 'dry', am quite sure your buddies will be immensely impressed! Mine certainly were. Let them gave a go at the dogfighting after letting them learn to take off from the station.

Depends on whom I show it to - I don't have any issues letting tech-affine friends or colleagues from work fly my ship. I always keep the oculus second window running in ED anyway, so I can see on the screen what they see and give them instructions as needed.

I did show it to a few elderly people and when I had three lovely ~80 year old ladies over to show it to them, I had them wear the rift, recalibrated to their position and flew them around using the screen - worked surprisingly well, except when I needed to access the side panel to request docking and told one of them to steadily look at the side panel - that was a bit hard to accomplish for her due to her Parkinsons tremor.

As for other games/demos: I found Senza Peso and sightline the chair to be good demos for beginners but haven't checked for new ones in ages. A suprising amount of people were more impressed with DCS world than ED - it has excellent rift support.

The resolution isn't good enough to read all the cockpit dials and MFDs properly and do actual sorties, but just picking a free flight airborne start works even for people who never flew a sim.

i stick them in the 'travel' training mission, maybe give them a bit of help to fly out of the station - having a secondary window really helps for this.

Tutorials?

Agreed. When I want to let other play I put on the training missions after all it is not like they will know my HOTAS setup or even care. All they want to do is fly around and shoot stuff.

I start with the target practice one then the first combat one.

VR Desktop to warm them up with a giant Windows screen 10 meters from them, from there I launch Radial G, easy and instant fun with great sensation, people immediately scream awesome. Then I fire up the first Elite tutorial and let them fly in the asteroid ring. That's what I did with two friends at my birthday party anyway.

Sight-line the Chair. Optional to give them a push when they look down while on sky scraper under construction.

If they're into anime (which has been common with my friends interested in Oculus), My Friend Totoro. The Matrix and maybe Battle of Endor.

For Elite, I just fire up the tutorials. Since running the second window gives horrible frame rates for me, I'll usually run in normal monitor mode to show them the flight basics (HOTAS), then set it up for Oculus. I might throw them in a sidewinder.

Should have different ships in training missions.. training docking in a L9 or a anaconda at the very least.
and defensive training in a anaconda against a horde of sideys and cobs.
