How do you solve a problem like Micro-jump drives?

I propose Ship launched Scouts.

The size of a normal fighter. Comes with Data Link scanner as standard.

They have two core internals, Power and Drive. They have a smaller FSD that can do Supercruise and a small jump up to 1.2ly maximum, but they also benefit from a smaller mass so can do micro-jumps within systems.

They have two optional internals.

- Cargo bays
- Planetary scanner
- Possible mining equipment
- Possibly support one SRV as a drop ship (or hey there is an idea for another utility vehicle :D )

It has 1 class one hard point, can fit a mining laser or small laser or cannon.

It has 1 utility slot.

When you jump in one your main ship disappears I suspect, but can be recalled later. The recall should be reasonably realistic in the sense that expect the mother ship to follow you on conventional super cruise.

*sigh* Why though is that a problem that needs "solving"? The game currently presents rules that say that, no, you cannot do in-system jumps, nor does anything really require you do.

Rather increase rewards for people weird enough to fly to those places. Problem solved.

Or maybe, instead of a micro jump, a higher speed cap, say 5000c or 7000c or even no speed cap, thought it's been mentioned that the speed limit is a technical one, not a lore-based cap.

I've actually suggested that before but here we are it's still not in the game. Distance from the main star should absolutely factor in reward. Maybe that is an alternative that's easier, but this could be more fun for sure :)

Thing is the scout ship is just that, so you can jump to another stars inner system within a larger system, do some scanning and see if it's worth bringing the bigger ship. It's an added mechanic that prevents against grinding systems, but still means you need to invest time in getting a good bonus.

Maybe instead of scout ships, you have unmanned probes that you can set off on an in system micro jump to that Star 200,000Ls away, it may be able to scan and resolve targets at that distance and then returns to your location with the details.

That way you still have to fly there if you want to get the DSS bounty, but allows you to get the basic resolution of the system.

You would still have to fly your ship to that destination to take the screenshot, but it would allow larger systems to be surveyed quickly without breaking the requirement of the pilot 'doing the time' to actually see the objects themselves?
