Newcomer / Intro How do you talk to NPC characters?

Hi all,

I've seen a few posts whereby players have asked other ships where they can find a person they have been tasked with assassinating. How do you do this? I've tried opening comms, selecting other ships in the menu thing... but can't find any conversation lines I can use...

any ideas where I'm going wrong? I found a link on YouTube, which I cannot post (search for talk to npcs elite dangerous) but I don't get any of the options this guy has... Has this changed in later versions of the game?

You don't do anything.
If you are on an assassination mission, sometimes a USS NPC will tell you where to look.
