how does cargo scanner work?

What's a cargo scanner? I find that if you can just crack the hulls open you can see what's inside :p (Joking)

Ok so I'm pretty sure it works when you target someone and look are your Left panel. On one of the right tabs it says cargo. Just look there and if you have a scanner active it should give you a read out of the targets cargo hold... should:rolleyes:

Target an enemy. When you are within 1k, hold fire down. Keep it hd down until the arc in the target reticle completes. Then look left to the enemy cargo tab.

So neither has to be assigned to a fire group? I just buy them and they work automatically?

no, they must be fired on locked target at closer than 1km distance for quite some time ;)

so only way to use scanners is to assign them to fire group, deploy them, lock target, press fire and wait for scan to complete.

Agreed. They either need to increase the range or speed of scan completion.

No, because the scan would then be too difficult for the target to try and avoid.

Currently you must keep the target close, and in front of you. A target that wants to avoid your hostile scan has a chance to do so by aggressive manoeuvring.

I have 2 weapon groups, would I have to re assign one of them to scan then revert back to fire?

you can have more than one fire group, just make 1st fire group your weapons, and in 2nd fire group set as primary "weapon" only scanner.

you can switch between fire groups with the key is binded for that action, don't know the default one but on my hotas it's one of the hats -> left-right switched between more fire groups :)

i think on bigger ships many fire groups can come in handy, also i know pilots who have fire group 1 all weapons (like 2 primary and 2 secondary) and fire group 2 just one (left or right) so when you need to finish the ship there's no need to shoot more than 1 gun ;)

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you sir!
