How does one find anomalies, using the Codex?

I've been to places with reported anomalies, hoping to find some of those cool glowing orbs, and all I've found were fields of metallic Christmas tree ornaments, but no pretty lighting or anomalies. How does one find anomalies, using the Codex?

Good question... You just reminded me, that a couple of weeks ago, I have bookmarked systems with anomalies to visit them later... When I did, I only found the crystals and one instance of space squids... But at that time, I have already forgot, that I have bookmarked them to see the anomalies... And so far I have not seen them either... And I have visited all NSP locations in those systems... Not a single anomaly...

So how do you find them?

There is a thread here of known issues with the CODEX, I believe the OP gets updated with every new submission.

It is proper buggy the CODEX, last week it was telling me I had made new discoveries (to me) but nothing appeared in my transactions tab, this week, that is all working fine. Perhaps, as they pass it. someone in the FD office occasionally (and accidentally) bangs into the CODEX server, making it misbehave then correct itself a week later. with a second kick

When you get in a field of metallic christmas tree ornaments you will often see little white dots appearing all over the place on your radar...be aware, these are not the christmas tree ornaments, they only show up on the radar if you are right on top of them, the little white dots are the small things that appear in the crystal ornament field! You need to fly slowly towards them at half speed or slower until the are either visible or resolve into targetable signals, quite close, in fact I often run into them by mistake. The anomaly type objects are the hardest to spot and if they are the lightening type you are often under attack the moment you locate them, so take care.

Also note that I have only personally observed only one type of minor object in any one field of ornaments. Also a secondary note, I don't think I have ever found a crystal field without the smaller objects, but I have found the smaller objects in rings without the crystals being present. It's possible the anomalies were there but you mistakenly took the radar signals for the main objects. Every large field has a type of minor object that's hard to spot and can only be found using the radar. Good luck.

Thank you, this is exactly what we were looking for. A clear and comprehensive guide...

I do remember there were these small dots on my radar, but I though those were just some sort of space dust... Next time I will know, that whenever I see these small dots, i should really pay attention to anything that is around me and not that obvious as those crystals... The crystals were actually the reason why I did not look for anything else... I took that "OK, this NSP are crystals lets take some pictures and leave..." kinda approach... :)

Thank you, very helpful! (y)

You're welcome. The first time I spotted some anomalies was completely unexpected, there I was chasing down some dots on the radar expecting the usual space life forms and suddenly...zapppp, uh oh there go my shields! So be careful and have fun.

If you'd like to read more information on NSPs, here is a clear and comprehensive guide to NSPs.

As the others have already said, if you find an NSP, it'll always have something other than the metallic / icy crystals, mineral spheres, calcite plates etc. More precisely, an NSP will contain one "dynamic" lifeform type, the one it's generated for, and 0-2 "static" lifeform types, the scenery which does nothing and just stays in place. However, some of the lifeforms are so small that they are quite easy to miss, as you yourself have noticed now. But the rule is that if there's an NSP, there's always something in there that moves about and reacts to certain stimuli.

Thanks! I found them easily. I couldn't see them until I was almost on top of them, and I assumed the dots all over the radar were the metallic crystals.

IMHO those scenarios (occasionally also with finding space squids) seem the only places where A-Grade or G5 LongRange Engineered Scanners actually do something useful for Explorers ;)

Counting on the larger amounts of unresolved white contacts works fairly well though, that's a dead giveaway,
