How does one get a clipper?

What are the steps needed to qualify for buying a clipper.

And where does one go to do these?

Achieve a rank of baron and have an extra 22 million cr laying around.

Trade and do missions for imperial factions. youll get rank up missions as you go. You need to have the rank of Baron to purchase a clipper.

You need to do Imperial missions and raise your rank to at least Baron I think. Imperial missions should be offered at Imperial owned stations. Once you have reached Baron then your best bet to find a ship-yard selling a clipper is a Hi-Tech system.

You may not have to be Baron to get a Clipper. There were a number of Imperial stations selling the Clipper to lower ranks (Squire or Master) if friendly or allied with the system faction. But that may have been "fixed" in 1.1.

This has been fixed, Baron required. Oh and Jamesons doesn't have faction ships in case you hoped for the discount

In that case stick to Imperial space and trade and / or do missions for the local allied forces. Always check the bulletin board for the rank up missions. I use to stay in one system and do as many missions an possible until I reach allied status with the locals. Then I switch to the next system. That way it does not take too long until you can progress to the next rank. And don't forget to ALWAYS check the bulletin board of Imperial stations for those rank up missions.
