How Does Rep For Major Powers Work Now?

I did a search and see a lot of discussion, but nothing that i can see that is official.

Is there any official work from Frontier on how rep with the major factions works now? I am allied with the Federation and Empire and I do not want to loose it. I am not pledged to a power and have no plans to participate in PP.

Do I have to do something constantly to keep my allied rep? If so what?

If Frontier made this into just another constant daily grind to keep your rep up that is just wrong, you should only go down in rep if you do something wrong, like kill a system security ship.

I am friendly with the Alliance, how do I get allied? I got friendly back when there was a CG war going on in the Alliance someplace, but that has been months ago.

This is not the official word from Frontier but is based on what I have experienced since v1.3.0x went live:

Currently, all major factions and all minor factions that are aligned with a major faction will experience reputation decay. It will decay from fully allied (+rep no longer gives + arrow) all the way to the bare minimun to be friendly (and - rep will cause you to go to neutral). Although FD have stated that only minor faction rep will no decay, they did not decouple the interconnectedness of major faction rep and minor faction rep, and as such minor faction rep loss will cause major faction rep loss and major faction rep loss will cause minor faction rep loss. Additionally, unless you are grinding a large amount of missions for many minor factions, then the major faction rep loss will be greater than the reputation gain from the missions because all of the minor factions decay is greater than a small number of minor factions reputation gain. Even with doing many missions across several minor Empire factions I still had my reputation decay from allied to friendly. Whether FD is intending for reputation to decay this way I do not know, but as it currently stands, even with a 2-3hrs a day daily grind for a single major faction I was unable to prevent my reputation from decaying from allied to friendly, even though I did nothing that earned me negative reputation through my actions.

Note: The interconnectedness between major faction reputation and major faction aligned minor factions can be seen that all of the major faction aligned minor factions start with a baseline reputation of (neutral, friendly, allied, etc) as that which you have with the major faction. Minor factions can have a higher reputation status than the major faction. Losing rep with a major faction from say killing navel vessels will cause minor faction reputation loss as well. Also losing reputation with a minor faction will cause reputation loss with its aligned major faction. :End of note

If there was no reputation decay, to get allied with a major power you need to earn a lot of positive reputation from major faction aligned minor factions, through missions, trade, selling of exploration data, turning in combat vouchers, and claiming bounties.

Thanks for the response and +rep for you!

So it seems from your post that Frontier has turned this into nothing more than yet another daily grind.

Frontier, if this is really the way that it works now then I think that you need to change it back. We should not have to grind away all the time to keep an allied rep at allied. We should only go down in rep if we do something bad, like kill system authority ships, ect. We most certainly should not go down in rep just because we are not doing anything, to have to constantly grind away just to maintain your current rep in my opinion is just flat out wrong. It really seems like to me that you just keep changing things to make this game even more of a grind than having fun, this is a game, it is not a job and it is not real life.

I don't understand, prior to 1.3 update I had done a few Empire rank naval ascension missions to get squire rank. Now all I want to do is rank up I try giving money to empire factions, doing missions with empire minor factions, etc. Yet at times I see the red arrow at times next to my empire reputation for no apparent reason... The developers haven't really explained if there is a reputation decay system...all very confusing. I don't know if my game is bugged but it gets very frustrating wondering if the game is behaving 'as it should.'

To answer the question of what is so great about being allied to a superpower, let me rephrase the question to this: What are the game play benefits of having friendly and allied status with a minor power and with a major power?

The game play benefits for having + reputation with a minor faction include but are not limited to the following:
#1) access to more missions as many missions now require a friendly/allied status to be able to accept the mission (missions for which you do not have sufficient reputation for are listed in the unavailable missions section of the bulletin board)
#2) less frequent scans by security forces according to developer responses (with the frequency decreasing more as reputation increases), this is very useful for smugglers and people with bounties/fines
#3) possibly less frequent interdiction by security forces, also useful for smugglers etc
#4) prior to v1.3, the ability to see friendly and allied ship pilots names without the need for an initial scan by being in their presence for awhile (post v1.3, this tends to not always behave this way)

The game play benefits for having + reputation with a major faction are the same as with a minor faction but also include:
#1) ALL minor factions that are aligned with that major faction will automatically grant the reputation benefits associated with the corresponding friendly or allied status without having to preform reputation gaining actions with that minor faction. I.E. you do not need to do anything to gain the benefits from a minor faction if you are friendly or allied to the major faction it is aligned with, in the way that hero(heroine) of a country does not need to go and do things to also become the hero(heroine) of each individual town in that country)
#2) in addition to the minor faction benefits #2 and #3 applying to system security forces, these benefits also apply to federal, imperial, or alliance naval forces

To answer the question of how you can gain naval ranks with the Federal or Imperial Navy while your reputation is decreasing due to reputation decay, there is an additional hidden reputation system governing navel ranks and this reputation does not decay. There is a reputation decay system for major and minor factions but this is separate from the navel rank reputation. Doing actions that increase your reputation with a major faction will also increase your navel reputation with that faction but losing reputation with a major faction will Not decrease your navel reputation with that faction.

I have not allingned with any PP I basically ignored all of PP. I have been allied with all major factions and after 18 days of vacation I am still allied with all 3. However I have vac ationed about 17k LJ from earth so there is 2 ways of non decaying which is either not do power play or be far away from the inhabited space.
