I'm coming back after not playing for about 3 years (quit just before Horizons)
There is all sorts of conflicting data on how scanning works through googling.
Before, I had to go into 'scan mode' and hold down the fire button until it honked. Do I still need to do this?
Apparently all ships automatically have the best scanner now? How do you use this these days?
It seems that there is also some kind of 'planet scanner' that shoots out probes? How do you go about scanning actual planet surfaces?
