How does this instancing work?

So, if I were in a massive battle, comprised of players and it was in some random anarchy sector, and I was to jump out and then jump back into the same sector, would I again enter the same massive war zone, or would I just end up being in boring empty space?

The instancing is based on P2P afaik, so everytime you enter there is the chance of joining the same scenario, depending on the host of the "match".

Hmm unpredictable at least, the chances rise when you befriend the host of a given session, to my knowledge.
I cannot give you a fix statistic about that, Peer 2 Peer is a fickle thing.

The best that can be said to your scenario is that IF the event was a popular one in Open, with lots of attention, then the chance would be slim you would be reconnected with the same group of people. If you have people on your friends list, it would be better. If they were in a group you created better still. If all of you moved to the Private group, then it becomes very good.

The issue is that the game is not based on a server instance but a Peer to Peer connection and instance. Peer to Peer means that amongst those playing in an instance the communication is kept between those in the grouped and balanced against those in the group. If you are formally grouped the system tries to maintain you in the same instance regardless of connection issues. Sometimes this creates some real weird problems. If you are not formally grouped there is very little to connect you back to the people you were playing with.

Hope this helps. There are others that can give you a much more detailed reasoning, however, in a nutshell, that's the situation.

Yes the system is not too good, i was following Amber rose in the Kate Russel stream, on her 2 hr period of play, i tried to jump following her FSD wake, (more chance of ending up in the same instance), but sometimes failed due to just not letting me jump, even after targeting it.

So i was watching at the same time, so jumped anyway to where she was going, i only managed the same instance in a couple of systems out of maybe 10.

multi-player is lacking just now, hopefully it will be improved, (wings coming soon) and we will be able to form groups in open to jump together.
