How DQ would've done the Barnyard Animal Pack

Y'all, I'm absolutely pumped about the latest DLC. However, I do think that there was a missed opportunity. I believe I can make the same DLC with the exact same species but bring in way more variation...

"How?" you ask?

Simple. Change 3 animals:
  1. Sussex chicken
  2. Tamworth pig
  3. Hill Radnor sheep
How, though?

Simple. Renaming them
  1. Sussex chicken - Domestic chicken
  2. Tamworth pig - Domestic pig
  3. Hill Radnor sheep - Domestic sheep
My idea is that many domestic breeds look very similar, apart from color and slight shape. But, my idea is that these species would have different colors/variants to represent various, similarly looking breeds.

I.e.
  1. Domestic pig = Tamworth pig, Yorkshire pig, saddleback pig
  2. Domestic chicken = Sussex chicken, Leghorn chicken
  3. Domestic sheep = Hill Radnor sheep, Jacob sheep, Black Welsh mountain sheep

That way, in theory we technically get 1 species, but it can represent various breeds that currently exist. But that's just a silly little idea

I really like it, I thought it could have been color variations from all over the world but that also could work very nicely if chosing very similar looking breeds.
Like they have in Jurassic World, that you have one species but can chose the "variation" of them (in PZ case, BUY the variation or breed the variation)

I am one of the people who wanted Farm pack but I expected it to be ... more ... COLORFUL, ya know.
Maybe people would be more happy to have those "clones" (not technically) animals if they had more varieties as you wrote, or if they added just one more animal like a domestic goose or walk through rabbits or something.
It's just looking kinda sad with animals of one color to be THE farm expansion we expected.

I can't decide if this would actually be preferable or not. These breeds would have different builds, meaning we'd find ourselves in another "Malayan" tapir situation. Maybe it would be easier to handwave here, but I'm not sure if it's the best approach.

Really, the change needed to change this pack from a real groaner to cautious optimism would have been choosing different breeds outright. I know this has been repeated ad nauseum at this point, but I would be singing a very different tune right now if I had seen Nigerian dwarf goat and kunekune pig listed instead of what we got. I'm okay with the chicken breed and ambivalent towards the sheep breed so if you wanted to change those too, by all means. It's just the goat and pig that are dragging the whole thing way down.

Thats genuinly a downgrade, i know most people care less about breeds but they still look distinct from each other
Just a general domestic pig, chicken and sheep wouldnt have done those justice and it wouldnt solve the problem of the pack that some perfect breed choices where right there with the ouessant sheep, kunekune/vitnamese pot belly pig and especally african dwarf goat but frontier did the frontier and we saw what we got.
The sussex chicken is also generally cool, looks like a normal chicken and with many color variations so its basicly is the basic chicken we wanted.
The proplem of the pig and sheep meanwhile is that their specific breeds kinda suck and that they still look rather distinct so its hard to go generic when they dont look generic and without meaningfull color variation, something that hits the red pig far worse then the sheep, which while not being a bog standard one with especally their size still passes as a generic sheep.

Well, looking back I think I agree with the comments that my initial idea wouldn't really be an improvement.
I guess, really the worst choices were the pig and the goat. The goat should've been a pygmy goat and the pig something more unique. While my personal favorite breed is the saddleback, the best choice would've been the potbellied pig or the kunekune.
I'm ok with the rest, maybe change the sheep, but I don't know enough about sheep to really say anything worthwhile

If I was a dev I would look at wishlist and then which one of the goats have the most color morphs.
I would REALLY love to know how is the team chosing the animals for their DLCs.
Wouldn't it be cool to know?
Or if they begun this kind of connection with players being like "We want to make woodland themed pack in two Q. What would be the suggestions?" and then people could vote for the animals and/or build stuff, if build stuff or not.....
So people would help them to create the pack which would most people buy with a feeling of being listened instead of this surprises where then plenty of people don't understand the choices. In that case it would just be the players "fault" if animal XYZ wouldn't get there, better than yelling at Frontier who are just trying to work hard...

This is exactly the way you do a theme like this one.

Idk why Frontier refuses to go the PK route and make skin variants as subespecies / breeds.

Not that it would make mr anymore interested in this pack but at least it adds variety.

Is not like at this point of the game's life we are going to get other clones of this animals in other packs (or at least i very much hope not)

Honestly for me

1) Plain Milk Cow
2) keep the donkey
3) Plain wool sheep
4) Plain Milk Goat
5) Big white pig
6) Keep Alpaca
7) Normal farm chicken ( guess sussex chicken ok)
8) Bee farm exhibit + honey vending .

You are always happy and pumped with anything they bring out...

I would just create a hamburger shop with these farm animals in it.

I hate domesticated animals in this game, so just skipping it entirely is the only good option

I respect your decision.
Now may I suggest you to acknowledge others' excitement and anticipation by now and please be a bit less grumpy, or at least have a dedicated thread as a vent for your reasonable dissatisfaction.
The pack is already done. It's going to release. I clearly see that you are deeply frustrated by this and why you are. But regardless of how good your reasons are, mumbling about it all around the forum won't help anything in any way.
Doubt it would affect your reputation in this decent-sized forum very much, but most of all, it would just make you feel worse.

…But if you feel genuinely satisfied by behaving as you currently you are, well, who am I to talk?

At least I'm happy. If you're miserable, then stop playing PlanZo. And by the way, I've also disliked packs in the past, but you weren't around for those....

Said the animal lover...

Keep your entitled opinions to yourself. Nobody wants to hear them. While the rest of the community is now ok better terms and willing to give constructive feedback, you complain every single pack
