How early can you take kill missions?

Hey,

Just started playing and wanted to know how early into the game can i take kill missions?

Got pulled out of warp on my 2nd flight and took down the enemy (AI) very easily and got myself a 4k fee for it. Got me to wondering if its that easy to kill in missions?

I'm still in the entry level Sidewinder.

By kill mission do you mean the 100K+ Kill missions or the Kill some Pirates/Bounty Hunters/Traders missions?

If it's the 100K missions I would avoid those until you get a well kitted Viper as they are usually against Anacondas.

Do t take any at all until they have fixed them for sure. They are well bugged at the moment. Beyond that yes a well fitted viper can do it but it's a tough fight for sure.

Never ran into any problem with them being bugged at all. But yes get a well kitted ship and some experience. They are not a job for amateurs

I think there is a strong possibility that many of the "bugged" missions are false reports from those who simply gave up looking for the target after having gotten an alternate mission update.

But in any case...no Sidewinder pilot should attempt to take one of the condas down alone.

Thanks for all the replies. I did mean the Pirate/BOunty/Trader missions. They only seem to give 15k or so reward, so I figured that they shouldnt be to hard?!?

If they are doable in a starting ship, do I need a special scanner etc for them?

They are doable in a starter ship, especially at a NAV beacon, where you can pick and choose who you engage.

Plenty of NPC pirates at NAVs are in shield-less Eagles for example. Pay attention to which ships are in wings and single out targets you know your can handle, should be fine.

I would stick to pirate mission to start with though, killing traders and bounty hunter can lead to situations where their faction allies can go hostel towards you.

thanks.............

Question: Can you kill steal? I ask as I took down a 'wanted' ship to 25% hull and another Player started attacking. I think he got the last shot and I received no bounty message.

Not sure how to quantify "many" here, but I do know that it's pretty easy to get a "bugged" mission unless you take certain steps. I'd say the odds are roughly 3 out of 4 missions will get bugged for me unless I shoot the messenger that tries to change my target (or convince me to abandon the mission) before I find the guy who tells me the specific system the target is in.

As long as I keep the mission from getting bugged, though, the target is so easy to find that I have a hard time believing that anyone is simply giving up...

If you're lucky, the 15k reward will be dwarfed by the bounties you collect.

You won't need a special scanner unless the systems you have to go to are Anarchy systems. My first "kill X pirates" was in an Anarchy, and I got quite frustrated trying to find the pirates by their bluster about how scanners don't hurt, or how they want to be rich and I want to stay alive... all the while showing "Clean" under their name.

I think the safest way to start a bounty hunter career is to go to a secure system's Nav Point, and just join the mob gang rushing the foolish pirates - that is, it's safer until you accidentally hit one of the mob...

Practice stowing your weapons and boosting the heck out of Dodge :D

It is possible to do them in a starting sidewinder, it isn't recommended though.
the best early ship to do these in is the viper as it has better offensive and defensive stats.
in reality though it's better to just find a resource extraction site and bounty hunt there without the missions.
you can kill steal early on and let the cops do most of the work if you want.
look into getting a kill warrant scanner and scan every wanted target before you engage. You will make more money this way.
you can also do this at a nav beacon.

Yes, kill stealing exists if it's between players. Whoever gets the last hit gets the bounty.

Just out of curiosity. Is it worth collecting cans when they contain gold? found some near a kill.... gonna leave these one but good to know for the future

Only if you know a place where you can sell it. It will be illegal and you need to bypass security either at an outpost or other ways of not getting scanned, speed, silent running, chaff (not always effective).
you can only sell salvage on the black market so make sure you know where one is before you pick anything up.
If once you start down the path of the dark side, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

Don't do the kill missions. You'll get a bunch of encounters that are a waste of time, basically NPCs will show up in a USS offering you an alternative with worse payout. These NPCs won't have any bounty or anything of the like, only offering text. You're best to simply ignore all missions unless they're trade missions and you're going hardcore trading.

If you want to bounty hunt do it in USS or at Nav Beacons but don't take any missions as they will interfere and serve up pointless encounters, proving to be a pain in the ass.

Also, when bounty hunting get a warrant scanner and scan your target. You'll usually get a few extra thousand Credits out of it. ;)

Absolutely! Especially gold, that's 5-10k per unit of gold! Very valuable for someone in a sidey.

Don't read too much into the whole fines and stuff with illegal goods. In my experience if you get scanned and don't reach the inside of a station in time you get a fine of about 50% of your illegal good's worth so it's still profitable and fines don't go on your bounty which means you won't get shot for a fine. Attacking another ship that's not wanted will get you a bounty which means you're free game. If you're fast enough, get in and dock you'll get scanned but it won't complete which means you won't get fined. I've only ever been fined for illegal goods if I take my sweet time hanging around the entrance. Also, if you're friendly or allied with the local system they generally tend not to scan you or take a lot longer to do so.

So, yeah... pick up those cannisters there's not much of a penalty for smuggling illegal goods at the moment.

the best money you can make is going to be bounty hunting for bad NPCs in Resource Extraction Sites(RES for short), you'll find RES in planetary rings(if they are rocky or metal)
