How effective are mines? and how much credit per "shot"?

With the upcoming nerf to the python relegating it to the same position of the anaconda where you are surely going to be engaged by a viper that will sit behind you and kill you without you being able to retaliate

i figure ill be having to do ALOT of running away and praying FSD charges up before my hull is gone, and that i dotn take enough damage to go broke and have to sell the python anyways

so on to the topic, if i just fully fitted every slot i can with a mine launcher on the python, well, how do mines work? would it be a good deterrent if im running from a viper thats behind me? would it actually kill it or even be a threat?

Never used them but I have been hit by them and they didn't do a lot of damage t my shields. No idea what they would do to a hull

Not very effective at all when NPCs drop them, ran over a few, but mostly they just sit there or the point defence takes pot-shots.

If only the word nerf could be nerfed, I'd be happy...

Edit: whoops! I forgot to actually reply to the post!
I've had Point Defence fitted every time I've come across an NPC using mines so I've not experienced what hitting them is actually like but due to their "type" (explosive) I'd guess they're lethal if unshielded.

I got murdered by 2 mines from an npc whilst in an Eagle, wiped my shields to 1 bar and hull to around 40 when I hit the first one and killed me on the second.

Not entirely sure why you're so scared given you can jump out in 5 seconds.

Anyway, class 1 mines do a little bit, but not a lot. I hit a couple in my asp and it took about 1 shield ring off.

They are scary in huge numbers but just a few will probably miss or do very little damage.

At an USS there was a NPC Cobra that must have had 2 or more mine launchers. By the time I dealt with his wanted buddies the whole radar was filled with white triangles. You couldn't see anything.

They also do some weird teleporting thing if you fly too far from them. They reappear ahead of you. I suppose if you dropped 30+ mines and then flew far enough away and they all teleport back to you the guy chasing you might get teleportgibbed.

I used a mine launcher in my first hauler, I managed to kill an eagle with it. But you don't get the bounty award. So I ripped it out after the first use.

I've had most of my hull ripped away by an npc that flew over me and dropped a mine on top of me. But other than that I don't think they are worth the money at all.
