How Far Out Have You Travelled for an Earth-Like Planet Scan?

I generally limit myself to around the 100k ls mark for outer edge scanning, but I have traveled around 150k ls for a Earth-Like before. I came across one around 300k ls away and decided to keep moving. Was the first EL I skipped, and got me wondering...

How far would you travel for an Earth-Like or Neutron Star detailed scan?

Depends on what kind exploring you like to do. If your exploring purely for credits then it might be best to move on if its 300k ls away.

For me though, I love the idea of getting my name stamped on an earth like, so I would probably travel as far as it took. The further-est I had to go for an earth-like was about 170k ls.

None of the ELP I've found had made me travel too far out.

However, this is more or less how I take decision:

-If unsure, wouldn't go beyond the 300,000 mark.

-If sure, I would go up to 1,000,000 mark.

With that being said, I have been disappointed a few times after traveling 100k or 200k ls.

Yeah its always a gamble just going by the map. Most EL have been around the primary star but come across a few that haven't.

Myself, I am not really out here for profits, but for me going 300k ls on a gamble, I kept thinking how many other systems I could check out in the same time and my gut told me to keep moving :) I wonder even if it was an EL, if it would be more profitable to leave it for the time taken.

Perhaps if there were other bodies to scan in my case I might have chosen differently.

If I ever manage to find one I won't care, at this point, if the initial distance is shown in ly instead of ls, I'm going there.

Could not remember regardless how hard I tried, I would travel (and did many times) well over the 300.000Ls to scan any old Brown Dwarf and its rocky worlds...

I am an explorer of destinations, not the route, so 10k maybe 20k max. I just use ELW as a bit of pocket change towards my next ship, 15 mins to get 40kCr is not worth my time.

Just came back from a 20k LY tour to the neutron fields, found some Earth-like planets out there.

how far i would travel to scan them in LS? well for those and blackholes there arent really a LS limit. that i have found yet.

I'll draw the line around 300-400kls probably. Set a general course, get the mobile and watch a show or something. But only for ELWs.

Same here, Galten. I work from home, so yesterday, when I spotted that ELW 250k away, I set a course and did some RL work. Nice to take a 10 minute break without sitting and watching the distance slowly count down.

EDIT: Later on in the evening, the second star in the system showed two pretty blue marbles... 470k ls away. So, 470k is the furthest for me so far. And like Haggis above, I got there and they were both water worlds. Ugh! Still, better than nothing.

Has anyone actually timed how long it takes to travel like 50k, 100k, 200k etc lys? (If not I must test it out some time)

If I take a long path like that I generally take a break, so its hard to judge. :)

I'm about to start on an Exploring Adventure, how do you know if it's an EL planet as soon as you get to the star system, Advance Scanner + Detailed Scanner tells you they type of planet without going up to it?
