I was just rereading the background and found this

Now the Shadow President, Congressman Hudson has previous made noise about removing President Halsey back at the start of April.

Is the 4 year Vote of confidence due soon?

Possibly not: the CG goal for "securing" the system seems to be going well. I'm thinking, the president would have died (in the future... sigh, tenses) if the CG didn't do well, and the system remained "insecure" - and that doesn't seem likely anymore.

So.. unless the Sobek Boys come up with a masterful assassination plot (looks like their CG at least will fail), there's little chance of Halsey biting the bullet. And tbh that CG doesn't really seem connected to the Federation, but just a chancy gamble on Alioth's part to expand even further.

Her popularity is at an all time low.
If one has a legal method to remove her, why risk an assassination/"accident"
Congressman Hudson's position as Shadow President seems to suggest he has the backing to run against her if the vote of no confidence passed, and win himself the presidency.

Remember the death of the Vice president?
Someone dropped the ball on making it a seem like an accident.
