Engineers How fast has everyone managed to go with these new engines?

Hello fellow commanders!

As a devout Eagle lover and speed freak, 2.1 beta and hopefully live (pending Meta Alloys) was an absolute blast!

I am curious as to what sort of speeds people managed to achieve in beta in exchange for copious quantities of marine life :)
As my submission I present to you, "858m/s backwards under one of the Felicity Farseer bridges"

I'd like to see or hear what everyone else managed to squeeze out of their ships too :)

780m/s (edited, typo saying 870) with the Courier if I remember rightly from beta. I was on the livestream yesterday in it flying around like a fool :)

It seems weight has much more of an impact on speed now. When I switched out my Couriers engine, and only the engine, I only gained about 10 m/s on top speed and boost, but every ton I took off added another 10 m/s

Oh yes, that one I was flying on the livestream had every ounce scraped off. 2D powerplant with engineer buff. 1D distributor with engineer buff to allow boost. I think I even lowered the fuel tank size iirc. Either way the only optional extra was the 3D shields because well... I died 3 times in an hour doing canyon and RES flying...

During my many fish related re-rolls I noticed that boosting the multiplier had way bigger impact on top speed than raising the optimal mass. I never quite managed to get both boosted at the same time, the video was a 155% optimal multiplier or something.

I am willing to bet someone out there nailed the optimal mass AND multiplier values and goes like greased lightning :D

Not the fastest thing out there, but I had a fully combat loaded Viper Mk 3 at over 500 m/s with a cruise around 430 in Beta. Crazy fast and hard to maintain position on slower ship's rear. Way too easy to overshoot.

Sure was fun buzzing some surface ports, though!

Just a question, wasn't the 500ms Thing supposed to be due to the networking, and the reason that ships couldn't go any faster ?

I DO remember that being used as a reason for the speed limit.

EDIT - TINMAN !!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty much. Recent improvements to the netcode are why we're now getting faster speeds, smoother SC transitions etc
