How friendly will you all be?

If I am stuck in deep space and put out a distress call on the forum for help with fuel. How many of you would actually help out? Would you demand payment of some kind or would you be altruistic?

Thank you

in my opinion this really depends on how far off youre stranded.
a few jumps distance (lets say max 5) i dont care and will gladly help a peacefull explorer. but if it takes me hours of constant jumping to reach your position i would want a compensation for my time and effort ;-)

Depends on how close I am and how the player asked.
If it was whiney or demanding i'd avoid on principle, if it was respectful request for aid I'd take a closer look.

If its someone I've talked to on the forum or someone I am close in location to I'd probably jump across and help for free since fuel costs/drone costs aren't that high compared with ship costs. If its a random person I've never heard of before its quite likely that it could be a trap so I'd probably avoid.

The question you should be asking is Why have I run out of fuel like a total pilchard knowing how it all works. I suspect you will end up being grief killed if you put out a distress call.

Bearing in mind that there are players who are prepared to travel to Sag A* simply to wait for explorers to shoot up, I would not expect that every first responder will necessarily be there to help.... ;)

I don't mind "driving" as it were, so I like to think I would help out for cost. :)

Depending on the circumstances, I'd be willing to help just for the good karma. Some day i might find myself in the same situation and hope that someone would do the same for me.

I think you'll find many explorers are willing to help a fellow traveller. If I can carry "fuel drones" without significant impact on jump range I'll take them with my on my next trip.

"It depends", obviously. Is the request

- "lol m8 i need fuel kthx lol" - err no, for the good of the gene pool.
- whiney - nope nope.
- annoyingly RPish - nope, I don't enjoy pretending to be a space elf.
- from someone I detest - nope, but then the two or three people on my ignore list pretty much cover this.

..but if it was somewhere that I could reach reasonably easily (including being in or close to a ship with good jump range), and I had time, then it's quite possible that I would. I would probably be paranoid as hell though, and prefer to do it in a private group, as it's an obvious easy setup for griefer kiddies, jumping to a wing beacon owned by the "stranded" player. The same applies the other way around, obviously- not all hoof beats are the sound of an approaching white knight :)

Free, within inhabited space. No strings.

1000ly out? Will the theoretical cost of doing so be better used to help others?

As has been said by a few it would mostly depend on the way the person would ask.

Assuming this is don in a sincer way I would consider helping him, it would me nice to do it in a RPisch kind of way to really feel like it being part of the game.

1establish contact and negotiating the terms of payment (I would assume the person wanting to be rescued would willingly offer some kind of reward for his/her rescue)
2kitting out or collecting your asp, anaconda or whatever you would call a capable deep space rescue ship
3form a wing, establish contact

for me there would definitely be a consideration of the distance to be traveled and the reward, sounds kinda harsh but it is a game ;)
