Horizons How have you decided to set ship ID tags?

I've been thinking of a standardised way of setting ship ID tags that might actually mean something across the board but not be a random secondary name, and came up with this:

How have you gone about using your ID tags?

LAW-<Role><Number>

Roles: C = Combat, T = Trader, X = Explorer, M = Multirole

Assuming I don't need more than 10 (0..9) ships per role.

my ships get a -xx number to indicate how many times i have rebought that ship (for exampel my DBS has a -03 as i had 2 insurance claims on it)

first is a 3 letter combination indicating role (TCU - trading cutter).

I've lost count of rebuys but if I'd kept count I'd do something like that too. Cool idea!

Yeah before I came up with my somewhat convoluted system, it used to be OZ-K(two numbers). The numbers represented the order in which I'd purchased them on inara. Eg:

But I find the new system more informative at a glance.

I tend to use parts of quotes as my Ship names, using the id tag to sort of complement the rest of the saying (can't be bothered buying ID tags though, only nameplates)

e.g. from the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" my Vulture "Good Intentions" has the registration "RD2HEL"

I gave all my ships the same ID number - N74QJ in honor of my favorite plane that I flew when I was learning to fly at the old Long Beach Flying Club.

This thread has given me ideas as to how I will do the ID tags for the future. My first 2 letters I am going to use to denote the size of landing pad and role. I have added an extra role of P for passenger as I do quite a lot of passenger missions which give large returns for not much effort. I then separate the last 3 characters by a dash and then use some clever registration code that was inspired from wow air, currently it will be a bit of a pet thing going on.

I have not got around to changing the codes just yet, but my Asp is going to get the id tag of MX-DOG, Diamondback SU-CAT, Dolphin SP-RAT.

I tend to use RESCUE when I'm potentially Fuel Ratting, RACING when I'm involved in a Buckyball Race ..

.. and TURNER otherwise.

Oh, except for my Asp Explorer which is named The Wedding Anniversary and has MAY 28 on the side so I never forget! :D

That works pretty well. The PVP League ones I have I use the ID CBRKAI for the discord we are a part of. Like this: Abaddon.jpg
That particular ship ended up sold as it's terrible for wing fights, but it looks nice.
Here's one of my proper combat oriented ships:
SMF001.jpg
It's has a forceshell cannon on top which makes it really fun to use in dense asteroid fields.

I like this, but I keep it simple as I am a simple fellow.

The stations greet me as Sierra Oscar November and I just add a 001, 002, 003 etc. I am currently flying the T7 "Steady Hobart", ID SON006, but I have lost more than five ships - wine and memory are mutually exclusive it seems : )

Pretty simple.

Ship name is whatever I choose in Welsh.
Ship ID is ZENITH.

So far I've only given IDs to ships which have participated in an expedition, in the form of the expedition acronym followed by my roster number. So my Cutter's ID is CCC171 and my Conda's is DSE307.

I'm quite happy with that system, since they're genuinely meaningful IDs to me but passable as generic registration numbers to anybody else who should happen to see them.

T for trading. P for passenger. X for explorer. C for combat. M for mission or misc. Then dash and the number in sequence of the ships in the series.

So for instance, X-1 is my long range Hauler (45 ly), X-2 Diamondback Exp (50 ly). X-3 Asp Exp (50 ly), and X-4 Anaconda (52 ly).
