How High Is The Galactic Roof At The Abyss?

I seem to have taken a bad step (or three) crossing the Formorian Frontier and the Abyss from Eishat through Puwee towards Beagle Point. Now in the Syre Thua group of systems +-2K LY from BP and still can't plot a route in the planner. I've been using boosted jumps in what I thought was the general direction of Beagle Point but on investigation seems I've been going up more than across. My Y axis reading is 579 whereas BP is something like -115.

So I am a fair bit off course.

Currently re-learning the galactic map in a effort to get down but the stars are very sparse in this area and I think I must almost be at the top. It's a pity that when the vector lines (eventually) appear while plotting individual jumps there's not some sort of colour coding to indicate you are going up (or down) rather than in the horizontal plane - green for level, blue for up, red for down.

It looks to be about +800 from a cursory inspection of the map. You do seem to be quite high. Pan the map view down until you are looking horizontally if you are in doubt about which way the lines are going, and check the altitude of your destination system compared to your current one.

Thanks Jon. A couple of boosted jumps in the right direction and I was able to get a bead on BP in the mapper. So no need to drive "Soaring Spirit" into the sun!

Valuable lesson learned though, congratulating myself on how clever I was for navigating across the wider part of the Abyss and almost ended in disaster.

On the bright side, if/when I get back to the Bubble looks like I will score quite a few "first to discover" with those remote systems.

That is definitely something to take from the experience - go away from the plane and you soon find plenty of virgin territory. I just spent a few days in the basement of the Outer Scutum-Centaurus arm and never saw a tag. Just heading to the roof of The Void and it’s the same.
