Horizons How I feel flying with headtracking ;)

(start at 4:00 if it doesn't automatically)

Sometimes I feel this way when dogfighting (minus the G-forces ;)

She's so chilled. lol
That looks like a lot of fun.

I've only got my webcam for headtracking - can't get it working though. :/

Cool video. I was trying to identify some of the manoeuvres in there, hard to tell when in the cockpit view.

Looks very fun, bar the g-forces!

once you go headtrack, you can't go back hehe! I can't imagine playing without it anymore. Cool video. Chic's doin it like a boss

I don't get headtracking with a monitor setup. Don't you have to keep your eyes glued to the monitor while turning your head all over?
There's no discomfort doing this for a few hours?

You know your eyes move independently of your head right? And yes, I can use it for hours without discomfort.

If it's properly set up, it only takes quite small movements of your head to look around. It's no more discomfort than sitting staring at a screen for several hours would cause anyway.

I couldn't imagine playing without my EdTracker now either.

have any of you guys tried the oculus rift with ED yet (currently the vive is not working quite right)

(warning if you do, there is a chance it will ruin the game for you outside of VR - it did for me)

No, not really. All inputs are accelerated/exaggerated, so a small head movement could mean a 90 degree or more head-turn for your in-game avatar. It probably would look funny if you watch someone playing with head tracking, but feels very natural after a few minutes. The only time it doesn't is when the acceleration curve is too low, and/or you're trying to look directly behind you in-game. In those situations, it becomes more obvious that you're turning your head one way but turning your eyes back the other.

I just put on my headphones with the head-tracking clip attached, pick a point on the screen I want to be my "centre point", press F12 to calibrate, and it's perfect. I always make sure to pick a centre point such that the side-screens aren't too low-down, if you have to hold your head down to look at them, it gets uncomfortable after a while.

I know what you mean ... I just couldn't get my head around this (no pun intended) but when I finally cracked and got myself a Track IR ... WOW! It just works, don't ask me how, but it just works. You really don't even have to think about it.

I've got a decent setup, but this is a problem. I had to create a dead zone in the middle so that I'm able to move my head slightly without my view moving, because otherwise you start getting neck pain from holding still for so long.

Then you have to create a curve so that you don't have to love your head so far that you can't see the screen anymore.

It's an advantage for sure, but I only occasionally use it. More comfortable to play without.
