How I lost my Cutter and Expert crew

Last Sat, I approached a planetary base and 2 landing pads lit up a sec apart after my docking request. I thought I saw number 7 on the one I was heading to but alas got the illegal loiter warning. Next, thought I could lazily move to the next pad except my Cutter's right nacelle got caught onto the lights or something and I couldn't move. Didn't see the count down whilst I tried to wiggle it free and then the Allied station starting shooting at me ... how rude! When I got myself freed, I tried to boost away, but that's when I saw pieces of my Cutter floating :(
I know I could have exited to Main Menu, but the game ought to be more tolerate about this ...

It's necessary for stations to be so strict about blocking pads because any leniency would be exploited by griefers to harass people trying to dock on their assigned pad.

Sorry about your crew member though.

Also, just so you know, picking that text colour makes it invisible to people using the dark theme.

Thanks for your sympathies

Anyone requested Frontier to resurrect the crew member or is there one escape pad per ship only :x It's just takes some time to train them up again and they have already taken away significant amounts of CRsss from me ...

Lots of people have requested it. NPC crew dying has been criticised since the moment it was known they would.

I'm very firmly in the camp which believes they should merely have a rebuy cost to represent their escape pod being picked up. Whenever I make a post on this subject I'm also obliged to mention that they should be able to sit in seats on the bridge :D

Me too, they ought to be controlling fighters from the bridge, not at the back inside a cargo rack

Damn those pesky ATC's. Their reaction sometimes could be described simply schizophrenic. Oh, for god's sake if someone uses their deserted pads for a few seconds longer. Imagine a parking enforcement officer hunting you down with a shotgun if you exceed your parking time. That's how Elite feels sometimes, lol.

Unfortunate incident, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. In most cases if you just fidget around aggressively and try getting the momentum going, the ship can come loose eventually, but once it's stuck for good, and I do mean REAL good, it's really stuck then. However if this happens when you're on the right pad, I'd say returning to the main menu before the timer runs out and give it another approach is not a bad option. Your situation though was even worse because of the nonexistent time on the clock thanks to the wrong landing pad.

I find Cutter's rear landing gears really hazardous. Quite often they seem to get stuck like super magnets on things such as antennas, probes, and all those small objects you can imagine surrounding the landing pad.

One time I got stuck with my Corvette. This happened in Deciat over a year ago, but this time it wasn't the landing gear, it was the front-end of the ship. I got stuck so bad like a solid brick. I literally couldn't move not even the slightest. I've actually experienced this bug twice (one time I had to return to the main menu as the time was running out, it just wasn't possible to break away) This other time though I did manage to break away, but it took me almost 8 mins of struggle, lol. [squeeeee]

I also found the landing pads inside asteroid bases have the exact space for the Cutter. If the Cutter is a slight angle, the landing pad's front barrier stops me from moving an inch forward, hence cannot get the blue light and target tone :(

I know some CMDRs would say get a docking computer but I find it's a waste of precious space for hauling which is the Cutter's major strength.

There needs to be missions to retrieve you crew's escape pod if you lose them.

Awesome, so can we shoot them as well so you don't get them back? No? Be great if I could do this for all the commanders who suggest we get stuck in an escape pod and sit in immersive stasis for however many months it takes for people to pick us up; assuming they ever do. Or, you know, get shot and then - welp - dead. Game over man, game over.

How about CMDRs give up their shot at immortality and gift their own stasis pod to the AI. Granted, this is then essentially hard mode for the commander. But at least the AI lives, right? Cool.

It is tolerant. There is a thirty second countdown. That's quite a long time to press 'up'. Sorry for your loss.

Your contribution has been noted.

How about a cool, emergent game play mission that only spawns after losing a crew member that has us going near where we died to retrieve the escape pod? The mission could have a specific time window, like some assassination missions.

If you retrieve the pod, you can save the crew and put them back to work with their experience intact. Fail in any way either by destroying the pod during recovery, missing the time window, dropping the canister out of your cargo hold, etc...and you lose your chance to get them back.

Nearly every time your ship gets trapped near the landing pad, slot or wherever, it's because your landing gear is down. Retract it to fly away and re-position.

This has happened twice in one week for me once with a full load and then yesterday (Sunday) with an empty load going to give planetary landings a miss for my cutter and use my python for that...

Frontier recently resurrected my NPC crew member (and ship re-buy) after my ship was destroyed due to a game bug. It took three days for them to respond since they are very busy with all the tickets due to the various bugs in the game. But they did restore my elite NPC crew.
