How I lost my Cutter and Expert crew

This has happened twice in one week for me once with a full load and then yesterday (Sunday) with an empty load going to give planetary landings a miss for my cutter and use my python for that...

Hope your Cutter wasn't destroyed twice :S

Frontier recently resurrected my NPC crew member (and ship re-buy) after my ship was destroyed due to a game bug. It took three days for them to respond since they are very busy with all the tickets due to the various bugs in the game. But they did restore my elite NPC crew.

Thanks, except I don't believe they will classed mine as a bug - landing gear caught onto a landing pad :S

Support seems to generally give players one "freebie" where they reimburse a loss even if it turns out to have been more the player than the game. Not necessarily advocating filing a ticket, but if you did decide to question whether it was intended for a ship to be able to get stuck on the landing pad, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they resurrected your NPC.
 
I would submit a ticket if I were you.

Losing crew that would have taken days/weeks/months of combat investment to train because of a game-engine clipping bug? Nah - that's not right.

The Cutter has always had landing and clipping problems. If you look at patch notes, troubleshooting the Cutter's clipping problems have appeared more than once and they're clearly not yet fixed. I've even managed to stick my Cutter on an NPC Anaconda before, in combat without landing gear involved!
