How Imperial ranks might be shown on our suits...

(Note to the moderators: If I put this thread in the wrong sub-forum please feel free to move it into the correct one. ;) )

A few months ago I was wondering how Imperial ranks might be displayed on our suits. With the Feds it is rather obvious as they are based on military ranks, but with the Empire they are based on aristocratic titles. This means stars, stripes and chevrons won't do. As I didn't find any official designs for them I started to dig into this topic more.

After some research I discovered then in aristocracies the rank of an individual is shown by the type of crown (called "coronet" in heraldy) on top of the persons individual shield (called "escutcheon") inside your coat-of-arms. For examples see this article on Wikipedia.

Now, seeing how the Empire is using a more stylized version of individual coat-of-arms (see the emblems of the Imperial powerplayers for this) I sat down and designed some rough sketches on how the Imperial ranks might look like in the early 3300s.

This is of course just a rough first design, but that being said: I'm not very artistically talented. So if you are: Feel free to take these and make them more presentable ;)

Well, in theory a "none" is kind of enlisted already and capable of working towards his or her first promotion, so I figured they should have something on their suit as well.

That would be Outsider.

Everyone starts None/None, so unless you are saying everyone starts enlisted in both the Federal and Imperial Navy, then None is no rank and no membership to either Organisation or Auxiliary.

That's why I used the words "kind of enlisted". It's not my fault the game mechanics make you start the grind at "none" working towards "Outsider" :p

There's an extra "O" on the tenth rank there.

Which one do you mean? Viscount or Count?

You mean require the demonstration of loyalty and usefulness before allowing a mercenary Cmdr with an Independently registered ship join a reserve/auxiliary?

Sure, but his superiors need to be able to identify him working for the Empire somehow. So he gets a rank insignia as well ;)
