How important is ED ranking to you?

I've voted for "Very Important" - not because I care about the specific implementation of the ranks in this version of the game, but because being Elite - like, really being Elite, in the sense of an Elite CMDR - is very important to me.
So I wish that the in-game ranks would represent that somehow, but they really don't.
I have the same feelings as Jackie. The Elite rankings are VERY important to me because I never made Elite in the original game back in the 80's. I only ever got as far as Dangerous.
I shove Triple Elite down people's throats because it is a measure of the time and commitment to this game. You're absolutely right it's about bragging rights!
I wear 3 Elite pin badges on my jacket. I've had random people notice them and ask me about them.
On 3 occasions (away from a convention setting) I've had someone ask me "You've got 3 Elite badges. Are you Triple Elite?" That just makes my day.
the elite rank in exploration is important but in my humble opinion exploration isn't a cruise liner sight seeing with passengers

I know great explorers by their names and achievements, of course I don't know them all yet, but I hardly consider "elite" the badge of a great explorer, I am sure there are great explorers who aren't even elite yet. I'm not elite myself in any of the ranked professions, in fact I couldn't even tell you what rank I am let alone what % to next rank without firing up the game and checking.
