Powerplay How in the heck are we supposed to know who is allied and who is not?

So I'm fairly new to actually using power play. I just killed an ally apparently, and nearly did it again immediately afterward. Is there a quick way to tell if you're allied to another CMDR's faction in the heat of things? I mean some kind of warning before the treachery email should exist. I've always been an indiscriminate killer. This is screwing up my day. I only have 10 points left. I can't kill anyone else allied to me. Only 4 days left to APA's. [knocked out]

Allied applies to leaders under a major faction, IE - Federation, Imperial, Alliance. Independents are all independent of each other so you can kill anyone other than those of your specific pledge. Alliance essentially the same thing since there is only one Alliance power.

Federation consists of Hudson and Winters

Imperial consists of Arissa Lavigny-Duval, Aisling Duval, Denton Patreus, and Zemina Torval.
