How is hard is making money in elite dangerous

Let me get straight to the point I HATE MINING therefore in this game called elite dangerous I saw I and was like hmmm another eve online or have gaming developers finally gotten their heads outta their asses and made a decent space sim game. I was when I saw gameplay of elite but the question remains in my head. Can I make money without laying a finger on mining?

i have a fully upgraded Anaconda that cost me well over 6 million credits and have 4 million credits in hand, mining isn't even included in the current build.

that should tell you that you wont need to mine to make money.

There's Gold at Them There Locations

Our problem is that this is a beta at the moment. The rate at which we make money might get tweaked a little. It's currently possible to find gold just floating in space.

My question to you is that mining hasn't been implemented in this game yet. How do you know that you'll hate Elite: Dangerous' way of mining?

You can choose any profession in elite. Mining will not be mandatory and we have no idea hoe profitable mining is as it is not implemented in the game yet. I have to ask the question, were you made to mine in EVE? that sounds terrible. I played eve for a short while after it was released and I never mined...

YES, when all career paths will be balanced, reputation system introduced you SHOULD be able to earn more or less same from mining/trading/smuggling/pirating/mercenary work/bounty hunting/assassin/humanitarian/explorer..etc

FD will have very tough time balancing those careers but all of them should be viable.

Mining might be a blast in this game (pun intended) that requires a bit of skill. Or perhaps it will be a slog. We don't know yet. So perhaps you should hold off on judgement for a bit. You might end up liking it if you try it.

As it stands there are currently a number of ways of earning money (trading, pirating and bounty-hunting, for example) and there will be others besides in future releases leading up to the full release game.

In this weeks newsletter they discussed a CMDR who had made about 53,000,000 CR just by legally trading goods. That's enough to buy what is currently the most expensive loadout for the most ship several times over. To be sure this will change in the future as more complexity to the Beta is introduced - new roles, more space to explore, more ships and modules to purchase, tweaked markets and so on.

I'm expecting big things for Beta 2.0.

As it stands I find the easiest path is to trade and then when you can afford the better ships you can think about combat.

Trying to do combat in the standard Sidewinder and earn cash is a bit of a chore.

That does raise the question, is trading unbalanced vs combat in terms of money making and at present I would say yes. but that is largely due to being able to escape from Interdictions far too easily.

It's my understanding that in previous builds combat was very profitable.

My thinking is that in making one role more profitable than another is a way for the devs to guide people into testing the dynamics of a particular role - in this case trading. Expect it all to change in the future.

At the moment, making money by trading, is very easy. This will be tweaked. Likewise the amount that ships cost will be tweaked I m sure.

A single career path (such as mining) is not a must.

As others have said, you can mine (in final release), trade, bounty hunt, run missions for the factions, or pirate.

You have many options! :)

I've made two fortunes (with a data wipe in between) via trading to date. It seemed like a long hard slog at the time, but in retrospect it was the most enjoyable part of the game thus far.

Since getting rich the second time, I've been struggling for something to do. I'm very much looking forward to more missions being added, and I really can't wait for the entire galaxy to be made available so we can do some exploring.

I'm almost looking forward to the next data wipe, and hell yes...make profit from trading a little more difficult - go for it FD....trading for cash gave me a steady focus, and goals to strive for.

I can't see me mining as a money making scheme....it does seem like a really boring and repetitive process, although if I'd not played Elite back in 84' I'd probably say the same about trading.

Making money is too quick and easy at the moment. You can make millions in 3 or 4 days....probably quicker if you do 12 hour sessions.

No at the moment you can not make a dime from other things then player vs environment (mining)

And this number was 3 weeks out of date by the time they published the newsletter... He was over 80mill when I spoke to him this weekend and well on the way to 100mill now! The guy likes his trading! :D

Ive made a descent amount of credits by doing a combination of scavenging USS and piracy, and some bounty hunting. Visiting Nav Beacons can also net a descent profit if you pop a hauler or type 6 with cargo. Or use the K-W scanner and hunt for bounties. I really like the freedom and randomness of the game. And it will become even better in the future with more content. The really big money is in trading, but the fun is in combat and piracy. And PVP is also fun. And thrilling. Being able to have all these elements in one game is fantastic :)
