How is that possible? - PvP

Hello everyone.

I've been in the Durius Sector trying to expand the influence of the Empire since today. But I been destroyed many time by the same player in one of the conflict zone.

The problem is that he has the same ship as me (Cobra Mk III) but mine has 2'500'000.CR with the best equipment i found and can easily following me from behind when i try to escape in Supercruise.

I have full power to my engine and two to the shield but he stays at the same distance behind me even if i use my burn every 6sec. That's weird, i don't understant what im missing here. He seems to have no power issues. Any clue or suggestions?

For the fact, I've been playing since beta and i think i understant pretty everything about fighting.

Deply sorry for my bad english.

p.s Durius is a terrible sector for us, only one station for repear and far far far away from the sun...

He may be using a stripped down combat Cobra, fitting mostly D Class modules - which are the lightest. That would explain how he has both the extra speed and zero power problems.

QE

PS Your English is fine :)

i think i know, you say you got the best equipment? and i assume whit that you meant A class modules.
he could be using modules whit lower mass than you like for example D class and that way he gets more speed to keep up whit you.

That is a sad fact. The differences between fully upgraded ship and the stock one aren't THAT big. (There are differences, of course)

Regarding the speed issue, your ship has "A" grade thrusters and power distributor, which also makes it heavy. The difference between "A" and "C" thrusters is how much? 20m/s? (I don't know the exact numbers and can't check right now) 20m/s is a very small difference and and if his ship is lighter than yours, he could be even faster and definitely will be more maneuverable.

Whole performance of the ship depends on ballance. The best modules aren't neccessarily "the best" for the purpose you had in mind.

EDIT: ninjas.

Indeed, weight is everything in combat (well, not everything, but definitely important). If you're planning to get into a fight, don't bring A-quality for all slots. Ideally you'll want D-quality for at least the life support, frame shift drive and possibly sensors, and depending on your weapon loadout you may even want to run an A3 power plant instead of an A4 or D4. Further, you'll want to NOT top up your fuel tank first, spend enough that you have maybe a quarter tank and you'll be 12t lighter just from that.

If you do all that, you'll have a Cobra that moves at over 450m/s during boost, and over 300m/s in regular flight, assuming four pips to engines. Let him try to catch you then.
