I found my first source of rare goods in the galaxy this weekend and the station only offered me 1 unit of each of the two rare goods available. They proved to be quite lucrative when sold ~100lys away, but obviously buying one at a time doesn't work as a regular thing. How does the game distribute rare goods? Is it a limit per day to a pilot? Per week? How is the limit affected?

In short rare goods 'spawn' at markets but are limited per player. Some goods are very low, some in the teens of tonnes.

There is a hard limit to the number you will get and this varies per rare.
The limit is per pilot.
Some rares limit can be "1" and you won't get any more until you sell it. Some can be much more but they sometimes only have half available when you dock so you need to either wait or come back to get more until you hit your limit.
