Meta Discussion How is the Mandalay's landing footprint?

Likely not as small as the DBX, but how does it compare to the AspX? The wingspan looks quite wide, but are they high enough to avoid small rocks and such?

The wings are a bit of an annoyance and do sometimes restrict landings. Though sometimes they phase right into the rocks

DBX is still the best for landing anywhere but i hated it, back in the day it was Asp Ex for me.

It's a lot better than the Krait! :D

I tried to make it not work in the mountains looking for fungoida... But always managed to land.

No complaints here. Agree it's no dbx, but then it's better than a dbx in many other ways (sco native to start).

It's a shame they didn't implement folding wings on landing gear out, it would have made sense and would have been aesthetically pleasing.

in my 2025 wishlist there is a DBX Mk2 SCO enabled and swapping size 4 for a size 5 optional internal,
i admit i still use DBX for Exo and ground missions, even DBS during Thargoid 2nd War for ground react missions, i still love this little ships ;)

I did quite a lot exobiology recently with the Mandalay. Like others here have said, you can land the Mandy in many spots where the Asp can't land anymore. Rotating usually helps if the wings get in the way. The landing gear is really compact and has a significantly smaller footprint than the general dimensions of the hull.

In comparison, the Phantom has a stern that's just to wide, and the Dolphin is longer. Nothing beats the DBX in terms of FSD range / footprint ratio, though.
