how is this build ?

I will soon go into the boonies, and this is the build I'm thinking to use:

Thoughts that went into it: No outer rim exploring, absolute max range not needed. Stamina to stay out very long. Fastest possible scooping. Reasonable defensive capabilities for sortie and return. With a 3D shield I would have been able to use a 2A powerplant, but that does little to jump range, and the shield would have been more than paper thin. So, is this a build that will do what I want it to ?

That distributor looks a bit inadequate for six laser weapons - I have a 4A on mine and I'm not sure that would be enough to really run all those lasers effectively. I'd either take the slight weight hit and a 4A distributor (which only loses you about half a LY range), or swap the class 2s for gimballed multicannons - same weight and enough ammunition for the fighting you're going to do on an exploration trip.

That said, with a 4D distributor, 4D thrusters, and 5D shields, you're going to be slow and weak in a fight anyway - you might be better (same total weight) taking off all the weapons and upgrading the thrusters to 5A instead, for a much better running away capability.

Other than that, looks good. Plenty of range and scooping speed to get you where you want to be, and four heatsinks and 3 AFMUs should give plenty of endurance against minor mistakes.

I would check one thing: what is the normal space speed with the 4D vs 5D thrusters? If there is significant difference, maybe consider the 5D for faster escape after being interdicted. You have power for it and only .3 ly less range.

Seconding this post, looks like it will do what you specified but better thrusters if youre expecting combat would be a good idea if you can swing it.
 
Since you want to go away for a long time, I would certainly remove all weapons. In deep space they are useless and in any case as an explorer you never want to fight, you should always flee. It really doesn't make sence risking hundreds or even thousands of system data. Nothing to gain, but a lot to lose.

Some people swear by the heatsink launchers, but personally I don't equip them any more. With maintenance units you will be fine anyway.
 
I will also second that I really don't understand the point of taking weapons. Not even because of the weight, but because there is no reason to fight. You should try to stay alive long enough to jump away. Unless you like gambling on millions or even tens of millions in exploration data.
 
Thank you all. Took the 5D thusters and went out, kept the weapons though. Maybe when I return, FD might have fixed the mess that 1.3 currently is.

One heatsink launcher for 2T of weight will often end up saving you from damage the repair bots can't fix.

Will save you 16T which I would put into a 4A power distro so you can boost more often. And I agree with the 5D thrusters.

Also, having used both the 6A and 6B scoops, I think the 6A is overkill. The difference in scoop times is a few seconds for a massively larger price tag.

First weapons test today. On the way out, so nothing to lose but the ship. Elite Adder interdicts me. Evasive maneuvers, hanging around his six, short controlled fire as much as the distributor allows with 4 pips. Nailed him with hardly getting a hit on me. Too bad I have no KWS, was an anarchy. Might replace one of the HS with that.
