Engineers How I've been adapting to Engineers playstyle...

Part of me keeps wanting to clear save and start over, just to experience what it's like to start from the bottom, especially with the tougher AI with a Harmless rating.

But an update like Engineers has so much to offer that is quickly not becoming an option.

I find myself engaging with just about everything now. Scan every ship I see in a system, just in case there's some data I can use. Drop in to USSs to scan ships, pick up mats or fight then pick up mats. j

I find that a collection limpet is a must to make the most of encounters.

I find myself looking over missions for the parts I need for upgrading my ship.

I find that a single mission can have several diversions involved, for the previously stated reasons. And I don't mind at all.

All of these things are simply how I'm choosing to interact with the game now. I have a Clipper and I want to make it my own Millenium Falcon. It's coming along well.

But it's also not going to always be that way. Eventually, when I've used up my mats and need to start saving up, maybe I'll move into something else, go somewhere on the edge of Alliance space and try and setup up a group of planets that I'm very friendly with, take on missions to make the right friends, a place to call home.

Then, when that's done, maybe I'll have a bunch of mats and components again, and see if I can tweak my ship some more.

Point is, every day is an adventure :D

I must admit Iv been enjoying today's play....it's been different.

I'm a 100% pure Explorer & don't do pewpew. My first impression of Engineers, when I met my first Engineer, was GREAT, just like PP all pewpew, so that's another thing I'll be avoiding!

However, because I'm in the bubble & Iv got time to kill before the CNE trip, I decided to get hold of some Meta Alloys & Soontill Relics & make contact with the two Engineers that give out FSD mods & see what it's all about.

Having got to grade 2 & 3 with then, I started to look at what was on offer & seeing how I could get the mats for a couple of upgrades. At first I thought 'nothing to see here - all pewpew'. Most things are found in Signal Sources & I avoid them like the plague. But as I moved between locations I tried out a couple of SS's & was surprised that it's not all pewpew & Iv collected enough mats to get me a couple of upgrades for my 'Conda.

Tomorrow I return with my Asp for the same upgrades......

....Still learning about Engineers, but I must say it's better than I first thought on Thursday evening.

Fair play to FD...nice job with the update.

I feel the same way. I'm one of those guys who has regularly been wiping my save many times since launch, (last time a little over 3 weeks ago)
I usually wiped my savegame when I hit over 100 million credits, because having a fully A-rated ship kinda made combat dull even against Anacondas in HazRES.

But with this new update I just can't do it.

I guess the moral I'm walking away with here is "It's not the destination, it's the journey."

The mechanics to me encourage exploration of the game - not exploration in the Beagle Point sense, but in the "seeing what's out there" sense. If I see a USS and the threat level isn't too high, I'm now tempted to maybe drop in and see what's what, whereas before I'd always walk on by unless it was mission specific.

The mistake is to go into Engineers with TOO high a focus on getting what you want. There are those who think if they can't get their Level 5 PewPewPew upgrade on their lasers within a single gaming session then they're wasting their time. I disagree. I see this as a chance to experiment, in much the same way the Engineers are experimenting with your ship. So far I'm having a blast.

Yup, 2.1 made me feel way more immersed in the game world and I think 2.1 is a leap in the right direction. With some narrative story or interesting plot thrown at the player, I think ED is faring well now. :)

I actually did reset my save & I'm loving every minute of it. It's so easy to get going even in the starter sidey, there's always missions you can take & always a way to progress, I have no problems with the update so far.

+1 to all you Commanders.

It's nice to see a positive post, and others that have "discovered" what I have with 2.1.

This morning I found myself very frustrated with the game, and I couldn't understand why. And finally after a good nap, an cup of coffee, I sat back and slowed down. I discovered that if I actually paid attention to the information now available in the game, things became much easier. My poor combat skills were fixed with turrets, and many other aspects of how I was playing. One really has to reevaluate the way one plays now. I really like that. I do things in game that I never did before.

I find it rather interesting that some many people are not willing to try and adapt to the new options available, and are unwilling to change their old habits.[sad]

I think FD did a great job with 2.1, and would like to thank them.[up]

I've been thinking about clearing so I can get the full 2.1 experience from the ground up. I'm at Master/Broker/Ranger so I'm not giving up much (I reset last summer after playing since pre-release Beta). I too am very glad to see that there are plenty of other commanders who recognize that this game has been completely remade for the better, the richer, and for the benefit of all play styles.

Indeed, and while there is lots of good reasons to start over, I think the fact there are plenty of reasons you don't need to speaks volumes as well
