How long can I stay inactive before I lose my data?

Hi all, I hope you are having a good evening?

I have tried to find answers for this both here and elsewhere, but to no avail, so I figure I might as well ask:

As the title says: how long can I be away from the game, without losing my on-board data?

I've been out in the black since October 28th, on my latest exploration trip to nowhere in particular, and I'm now on my way to Explorer's Anchorage, but I have miscalculated the distance I have to travel.

I'm going away on holiday vacation the coming Wednesday, and I'll be AFK for 28 days, and if I'm gonna explore my way to EA, I'm not gonna make the remaining ~400 jumps before X-mas.

So if I should park in the system as close as I'll get to EA without Buckyballing it, and stay there for 28 days, will my exploration data still be intact when i get home again, and complete the trip?
I REALLY don't wanna lose the data, as I've done ~2500 jumps on this trip so far, and have a little above Cr3bn worth of data to sell...

Hope anyone can help me with this, thanks in advance :)

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I stopped playing a few months ago to play a couple of Assassin's Creed games (Odyssey and Origins) and didn't play any games for a while.

I think I was offline for 3-4 months.

Came back and all was well.

Of course, I still fly like a orangutan with Parkinson's.

Considering some people seem to stay out in the black for the better part of a year at times before heading back to civilisation and cashing in their data, I'd imagine you're pretty safe to take as long as you need. Of course, there's always the chance that in the meantime, someone else might find and cash in on some of your discoveries before you, but the chances of that are pretty slim considering the sheer number of stars, and even then you'll still have the data to sell. The data itself does not degrade.

I've been out in the black for close to four years now. A few months back I checked with FD support regarding my exploration data due to a system crash. They said everything seemed fine, as they were seeing a considerable amount of exploration data associated to the account. So yeah, I guess there's no built-in expiration date on such data.

Until they shutter the game, in all probability.

I've been away once before while being out in the black, I was out of the game for 6-7 months or so, and when I returned, my data was gone when I tried to turn it in. It should be mentioned, though, that this was back in 2016, Version 2.0 of the game. Things might have changed since then.

Out of curiosity - how can you tell how much your exploration data is worth?

Exploration data never expires - it should stay on your ship until you sell it, or you explode.

Occasionally there have been glitches where exploration data gets lost and/or forgotten, but I haven't seen any recent reports of that.

I was away from the game for about 6 months due to working so much, but everything was there when I got back, including my exploration data. Well, the keybinds were borked, but that's nothing new with this game! LOL!
See you in the grind, Commander. o7

I usually play this game for half a year at a time, before needing to do something different game-wise. When I'm away from the game, it can take anything from 6-12 months before I return, and when I do, there has ALWAYS been a patch to the game or something that resets my key-bindings. And I always forget that, leading to me almost losing my ship when I return, either from jumping to a new system and not being able to navigate correctly to avoid the star, or just not remembering the default keys when undocking for the first time in forever  :giggle:

Stay safe O7
