How long did it take you for first docking?

Hi,

How long did it take you, to dock for the first time, and could i expect it to get better with the thrustmaster hotas x?

Thanks!

New to Beta here today as well, but playing with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Took it slow and steady the first time and no worries. I'd actually watched a video or two showing people requesting landing and extending landing gear, so that was no issue.

After doing it a couple dozen times I'm now fairly comfortable entering at 50-70m/s .. 100m/s+ on exit. I tend to go slower on entry, just 'cause.

I did crash once ... I accidentally pressed TAB whilst inside in docking manoeuvre - which is bound to boost - and couldn't slow down in time. I did it again in another station but managed to stop metres from the end. Now to remember to unbind it :)

NOW I can't get a docking pad - continual 'request denied' ...
Maybe they don't like me crashing about inside after all.

POOT!

Something similar happened to me when I forgot to deploy my Landing Gear on one dock. The pad I was going for "switched off" and my originally designated pad number went to a different pad. So look around for the pad number, and remember to Deploy your landing gear first.

I mentioned earlier I had no problem docking the first time. Let me amend that. First time on approach to the station, Azeban City vanished into vacuum (while the billboards stayed). I had to quit and restart the game, then had no problem docking.

Undocking on the other hand... Prior to my second time undocking, I was checking out the galaxy map. I mapped my throttle to the zoom in / zoom out (bad idea), and left it zoomed in, which was also "Full Throttle." When I later undocked, my Sidewinder lurched forward and slammed into the tower in front. Thank Czernobog for Shields.

I got stuck on the rails first try but managed to get off them somehow. Now I know to avoid them. I'm using mouse and keyboard.

Finding the pad and lining up with it caused a slight problem, but I think I've got that sorted now.

First time I tried when I first played took less than a minute. I played Arma and had a turn at flying everything for long periods, this is so much easier than that was.
Just get everything to hand (keymap), stick or KB/Keypad like myself. Side thrusters are a must and learning to roll, its easy once you get the hang of it. Go in slow when docking, I mean inside the station to the actual dock number, don't rush.
I got up/down thrusters on my Nostromo wheel, makes for easy lower/raise actions. Everything is mapped to my mouse or Nostromo, once you have it all to hand, you'll be fine.
